Squirrel_Basher 17,100
Took my boy out on his first serious lamping trip to the chicken farm i do on a regular basis.Very still night with a bit too much light in the sky but youve got to try, hey . He carried the lithium battery and i left the lamping totally to him and to his credit he remembered all he'd been told . Just inside the gate ,a flick revealed two sets of eyes out amongst the sheds in this field and beneath a large sycamore tree.I squeaked and one responded perfectly ,coming down the lowered beam nicely to be stopped at about 60yds with a low whistle .I was on sticks and shot it through the chest with the .243.The other did a runner at the shot and went through a hedge 100yds to the left but i decided to have another call from hereas there is a lot of ground unseen from this position .Didnt wait long before a fox came from the direction of the one that ran off and made straight for the tree.It sniffed around on the exact line of the other then made its way towards me slowly ,again on the line of the other ,strange as its too early for the rut yet . A squeak would have sent it packing i think so i got down on the bipod with my boy keeping the lamp on my level and just to the side of charlie . It stopped, head up ,at about 130 yds but didnt reckon on a 100 grainer coming fast its way and the brace was in the bag .Two vixens.Odd behaviour that cant be explained ,unless they were litter mates .
