para1 11
Hi Got a bit of new land but I’m having a few problems. 1- My MK1 locator will dot work on this land (getting interference from power lines etc)So I tend to put my 2 jills down with no locators! should I stop working them here? 2- My Jills work great I’m really chuffed with them But I find that if I use nets I’m constantly resetting them as my jills come in and out and its a right pain Is this normal or am I doing somert wrong? 3- Also another reason I haven’t been using nets cause rather than the rabbits bolting like a missile out of it hole they tend to stroll out as if they have all the time in the world thus the nets don’t purse. Why? 4- And finally because I’m not using nets and I have no dog/hawk etc I shoot them with my fully moderated 410 shot gun But because most of the dopey sods tend to stroll out of their holes it don’t seem too sporting (even though i do) to blast them as they pop out of there holes and begin to have a nice wash! What would you do? Hi wabbit slayer it sounds to me like you aren't slaying all that many. For what it's worth here are my views on your problems. Your locater won't work in that area fine don't use one.Your ferrets seem to be a good size so if they have to kill they will do it quickly and leave the bury when it is empty if you feed them well before you take them out.I use locater's on my ferrets because they are small and it takes forever for them to kill as they normally have to go over the back of the rabbit to kill it and I can dig them out quicker most times. As already said your ferrets are a fair size so you will get nets pulled off if you use a bigger mesh on your nets you will miss the rabbits. Either use long nets or continue to shoot them.If its pest control numbers count,(don't feel guilty). But if its sport? I used to shoot them with an air rifle using 1 ferret in big buries,on your own is best.Great way to spend a Sunday morning. It's not just the ferret up the rabbits arce that makes it hit the net hard but as already said more ferrets will help. When it touches the net with its head it leaps to try to get threw the net as it I'm sure must feel like its undergrowth. Your doing fine mate its all a learning curve enjoy what you do but if you don't enjoy, don't do it. P1 Quote Link to post
Wardyuk 0
Just keep taking your ferrets out, depends how keen ur ferrets are...ive seen a rabbit jump 3 foot off the ground out a hole with my ferret right behind it. My ferret has got better with age and experiance which is easily understandable. Quote Link to post
