LordGamebore 0
I'm hopefully going to be getting a .22lr within the coming weeks, assuming my land gets passed, and do a serious bit of bunny bashing. I know the .22 rimfire round is often prone to ricochet, so I need to know what to take into account before every shot. The land I shoot over is sloping downwards at a fairly steep angle, however it's only 12 acres and there's a footpath through the middle. I want to be 100 percent safe with every shot so I need to know what is an adequte backstop and what isn't. Cheers guys.... Quote Link to post
mattydski 560
Basically gently sloping upwards soft land, Even that is never guaranteed 100% safe, .22lr is very ricochet prone, a stone is all it takes.. Your knowledge will increase with exposure and experience to enable you make the correct choice.. Quote Link to post
theinvisiblescarecrow 0
Are there many stones ? I don't have much problem on the rough ground but poughed field with the stones on top is a nightmare. Quote Link to post
mjr88 50
When i do a zero check on my .22 , as already mentioned , i always place the target on a upwards sloping bank. Also , if you want a target that will stop the bullet in it's tracks , then buy one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LONG-RANGE-STEEL-DISC-TARGET-6MM-THICK-RIMFIRE_W0QQitemZ200528061766QQihZ010QQcategoryZ73978QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I bought one of these a while back and find it great to stop those .22's in their tracks , John Quote Link to post
trooperman 73
the best backstop and saftey is you ,,,put your self in the position of some one walking on the path you mention and then look around ask your self then what looks safe and then take it from there,,, the other thing is if the land is only 12 acres with a path running through it you may find it will not be passed but if your FLO goes over it with you think before you answer any of the questions he/she may ask and dont forget to make sure you often say safety is your main intention. paul Quote Link to post
