jacko 1 Posted October 9, 2010 Report Share Posted October 9, 2010 Started kick boxing age 4 ,then switched to boxing at the "Solly" at 14 , only fought once, turned up for a few more that got cancelled last minute, didnt train at all last season to busy with 6 th form and this mad lurcher pup I've got, hoping to get back sometime this season. jacko 1 Posted October 9, 2010 Report Share Posted October 9, 2010 My younger brother boxed for the solly aswell , i think he did a bit at school last year( he's 15) but thought it was a bit tame ,bits of tech sparring ect , but good if you have never done it before. gnasher16 30,509 Posted October 9, 2010 Report Share Posted October 9, 2010 (edited) gansher Chitlada fight was 1985 im 99% sure and know he had done a bit of sparring with him for that think Magri had moved managment or gym from what my grey matter can recall Yes Keith used to blow up [bANNED TEXT] and lovely kid for a Ginger he moved up to Bantam weight and he never really got off the same as Flyweight Great memories It was bugging me so i made a quick phonecall cos im a little bit obssessive like that .....it was xmas of 82 Keith was down here Charlie fought a fella by the name Mercedes in the March 83....apparently Keith went back up north a month or so before Charlies fight as he had his own fight for the commonwealth then a month later fought in Ireland at featherweight. As far as im told Keith didnt help out for the Chitolada fight he was up at super bantam by that time but yes your right it was 85...also Charlie was always with Terry Lawless,most lads who fought with Terry behind us never wanted anyone else back then,Charlie was no different. Attack Fell Terrier 864 Posted October 10, 2010 Report Share Posted October 10, 2010 I love the sport of boxing, I trained for a few years at a decent amateur gym which was ran by a good bloke who I still see for a pint every now and them, but to be honest I didn't have the mentality for boxing nor the dedication. gnasher16 30,509 Posted October 11, 2010 Report Share Posted October 11, 2010 From the day i could stand the ol fella would put gloves on us kids....but sensibly speaking late 70,s to 1990...and i agree its not the type of thing you can just dabble in,dedication is key and without it you have nothing. It set me up for a lifetime of fitness and made me some lifetime friends so i owe the sport a lot and still to this day have a deep love and passion for the game....and still dont touch the beer Quote Link to post Share on other sites

I thought super bantam weight didnt come into play till late 80s v early 90s again i could be wrong The super bantams were around from the mid 70,s but if i remember right the bbboc only introduced it around 92/93 so yes effectively he would have been fighting in the featherweight division but by todays weight a super bantam. Charlie dont live the champagne lifestyle any more working for Haringay council !!!...but he,s still sharp as a razor,it was definately only the one fight Keith helped him prepare for.....maybe your getting mixed up with another South East Asian,theres certainly been plenty of them down them lower divisions Quote Link to post Share on other sites

How different did you find the Amateurs to Professional boxing? Which suited you best? A mate of mine Rupert Christie boxed at national level for England/GB and done very well as an amateur, but as a pro had next to no success at all. Apparently he was expected to do well as a pro, but besides struggling to make weight for light heavy weight and being too small for a heavy weight (There was no Cruiser weight division when he was about) he just didn't take well to the pro's at all. Do you remember a lad who won the Commonwealth title and boxed for the British title called Lloyd Hibbert? I see him around from time to time and I have been good friends with his son for years. He was a Light middleweight in the 's and boxed Lloyd Honeyghan and a few other decent boxers around the time. Quote Link to post Share on other sites
