swanseajack 228
Now I got your attention... Ok I'm not getting sloppy on yah! I recently joined a photography website and on there they have a competition running for the best pic taken of a fox, granted most of these pics are town foxes so I guess they were relatively easy to take... It just lead me to thinking do we all actually see the beauty in a fox for what it is, for what it stands for and does.. what it does for it's very existence... My missus tells me I must hate them because I go out and kill them, quite the opposite really, personally without going to deep into it I think they're amazing creatures.... What's your take on it... ? And while were on the subject, anyone got any good pics of foxes that they would like to share... and I don't mean sausage shots
Guest baldie
A classic response from someone who really doesnt understand a hunting man [your good lady] I,ve heard that said many times buddy, and been told myself, that i must hate foxes [the only animals i hate are feckin monkeys] The fox is a beautiful animal, i mean real hill foxes, not the scrawny mange ridden ones like in the pics. The fella i shot the other night, was a belter, a myriad of winter colours, and in tip top condition.I love to sit and was them mousing etc, but i love to see them flying down a scree bed, tail going like a helicopter, and 40 fell hounds at the back of them
Guest The Big Fish
The Fox as one of God's creatures.... My son, we are all gods creatures
Stabs 3
I get the same responce from certain people mate but its simly a case of them just not understanding..........The bloke I do must of my hunting with told me he was once out with his shotgun , He was sat quietly in some cover on the edge of a crop feild & along came 2 foxes.........He could have taken at least one of them easily & this is a man who lamps & digs & has shot them regularly..........He told me he just sat & watched them for ages & did'nt even think about lifting his gun..........Strange to some but I know exactly what he means............In my opinion there is a very fine line between most genuine hunting men & someone who goes out taking photographs & making notes on wildlife..........I know I might sound as if I'm going on one a bit here but by hunting you get a feeling of being part of nature as a pose to just being a bystander...........I can confidently say I have seen things in our countryside that your anti's & wildlife lovers will never see , we are privaliged & in my opinion for the privalige the least we can do is show some humanity & compassion toward our chosen quarry............If I saw some kids kicking a hedgehog around or tormenting a cat I'd give them a kick up the f*****g arse but I'm the same man you will go and dig a fox the day after..............Am I cruel or a wildlife lover..............?????? jessdale 416
The fox is a fantastic creature worthy of the upmost respect. When we used to go out with hounds i sometimes wished a certain fox would get away.It is great to watch a fox at the start of a hunt, you can almost see him thinking of escape routes, before making his way across country as though he is floating.I cannot count the numbers of foxes that got away from a certain death,in our eyes anyway,by putting in the right move at the right time. But there are still lads that go out, eventually find a fox to ground, and then try every dog in the district at it just to let it suffer to prove their dogs. What does it prove?,that they are idiots thats all, idiots well below the fox in the chain of evolution.Jessdale Edited December 22, 2006 by jessdale

mavphill 0
There is a scene in the film "the Deerhunter" when Deniro returns from NAm and goes out hunting again, he sees the deer in his sights but thinks again about taking the shot. Any true feeling hunter can identify with that moment.
Guest baldie
Very, very true, mavphill, and i,ll tell you what, the older you get, the more it happens.I,ve lost count now, of the times i,ve raised the rifle to a rabbit, or a squirrel, pigeon or whatever, and conciously thought "do i really need to kill this"?, i,m a lot more selective these days. Guest oldskool
dad packed in hunting when i was a cub... before that he would have laid in the lough till the cows came home... he says he would rather watch them now but he still fancys the odd game bird in the pot.. it has to come from some where ... he thinks when i get older the same will happen to me... i cant see it, but you never know
snoopdog 1,256
somtimes it better to watch your quarry than to kill isat and watched two roe for twenty mins about 100 yards away idid actually start to release my slip but didnt for some reason ...and when they wandered into the copice i walked to the next field and ran and nailed a hare ....strange old world.. Guest Ditch_Shitter
While this may seem - to some (many?) like pushing the point to abject f*cking absurdity; I actually, genuinely feel much the same way about ..... Rats! " ". Honestly! I was explaining to a mate, just the other night, here. Rat's can't help the way they are. They don't elect to carry diseases and they certainly have no real malice against us. It's just their lot that their habits and instincts bring them into conflict with us lot. They don't think, " Ooh! I'll just shit in this feed and ruin it and then nibble on this flex and burn this place down. " It's just what their instincts and phsyiologies lead them to doing. I've kept pet, domestic rats. Still bog standard Rattus norvegicus. Just not full of diseases. They're amazing little creatures! Intelligant. Responsive. Playfull and really quite endearing. Almost certainly better pets than foxes make When I destroy the wild ones, I feel nothing. There's no spite or satisfaction. I don't Hate them! It's just a job. If I could blast them off to another planet, where they'd live out their days in a ratty heaven, I'd as soon do that. But, as is being expressed here already; Joe Public simply assumes we all get some near sexual satisfaction, just out of exterminating things. I think that shows Joe P to be in a far sorryer state of mind than most of us. Don't you?

salclalin 240
I've had the same response SJ, When i worked with people who were Anti Hunt They Assumed i kill foxes because i Hate them, when i explain that i think that the Fox is a truly magnificent animal but needs to be controlled they think i'm bonkers. When i tell them i had one as a pet(if you can call a Fox a pet) Their faces are pictures.
