JohnGalway 1,043
Niall called over last night. His brother had been biking and saw two foxes in the bog sitting watching him and his mate. One ran off the other didn't seem at all bothered. Grabbed the rifle and shotgun, as it was nice windy and dark and headed for the hill. We called a while on a spot that I've snookered many a fox from but no joy. Decided we'd try a different spot so we headed back to the car along the old bog track. Through the gate and onto the tarmac when I thought I spied a fox beyond the field on the hill. Had a second or two of a call and saw nothing unusual, there was a greyish sheep near where I saw the eye, thought maybe that was it. Walked on two or three paces when a shine of the light revealed eyes looking over the wall towards us "That's no sheep!" Fox took off running to wind us, we took off running to get off the tarmac and back onto the hill. Through the gate, across a drain, up the hill towards the flat. Fox popped his head up the far side of the flat before we'd reached the top. He started running in, then changed his mind and started veering away quickly. Shotgun and torch were up, first shot hit him behind - stopped the swing to shoot, d'oh!,me doing too much rifle shooting again - second shot bowled him over. Niall saw a second fox that I didn't but with all that action we didn't catch sight of it again. Dog fox, 35 yards or so. Quote Link to post
