watchman 256
well im sure most of you will be aware i had my Hancock bitch stolen last week, she was 12 months old and had been out on the lamp a handful of times successfully catching her first few bunnies and retrieving them live to hand, she was also completely broken to the ferrets and although it was early days with her all the signs for a competent rabbiting lurcher were there,so now what..........ok i still have my bullx but a rabbiting dog she will never be,iv got a shit load of permission for lamping and ferreting this year and need a dog,so my question is what would you do? i mean how long do i wait?,i might get the call in 6 months time to say the bitch has been found, might get a call in the next hour even, she will probably have been run to f**k and totally spoilt or maybe something worse i just dont know, im already wondering weather i want her back at all to be honest,i know that sounds terrible but cant help how i feel eh,some c**t out there with my pride and joy that i alone bought on from a 13 week old pup, basically some scum c**t at that. its only been 5 days and already im eyeing up potential pups on here and elsewhere to start again for next season and just completely write this year off, which in itself im f*****g wounded about. i know many will say hold on before you do anything and its only been a few days but a pup taken on now will potentially be ready for the next years season and although my whole outlook on this game has changed slightly i know there are a lot of good decent men out there so would like to hear your advice and thoughts,i don't want this to reflect badly and i know a lot of people are keeping an eye out for this bitch and to the charities involved as well i am truly grateful, but would like some advice on the matter please, thanks for reading rob Quote Link to post

Catcher 1 639
It's a difficult call to make fellah,.and as you know,..it is down to you... However,.what I can say with some certainty is,.life is short,..and getting fecking shorter for me, by the second.... Whenever I have lost a dog,.(and I've lost a few.. )..I have invariably gone out and found another,.ASAP.... Of course,.it doesn't cure the situation, or relieve the pain,.but,.it sure as hell helps... All the best ,..CHALKWARREN... Quote Link to post

jambay5 191
Go for it mate Quote Link to post
Marsh Lad 321
It cetainly is an awkward one. I think I would put all my efforts in getting your bitch back. You alone know all the time and effort you have put into her. Getting her just how you wanted her. Starting again will take some doing, so this season will be a none starter. Some F*CKING WANKERS need knee capping. Hopefully she will turn up and you can. with a bit of luck pick up where you left off. Good Luck Quote Link to post
Wild Whippies 11
Sounds to me like you have enough work for 3 dogs, whether your home can accomodate them is something you should consider. The beauty of having another dog (presuming you get your other one back) is that there'll be times when one is injured and you can be tempted to run when the dog is resting. If you've got 2 there's less pressure (if you see what I mean) Don't loose hope though. My friends dog was stolen from his smallholding years back. He went in person to the dogs homes and sure enough they was reunited. (Dogs home had him down as a fawn lurcher, dog was actually a brindle whippet) You've put a lot of time into the pup, it will have built bonds with you that won't be broken easily so please don't think if you get the dog back all your hardwork will be undone. I've had a dog stolen (she raised too much attention around the area with people wanting to buy her) I never got her back and I can tell you that even now with all the generations of dogs I have here, I still wonder what become of her. I don't think you ever get 'closure' Quote Link to post
Paul in North Lincs 15
To be brutally honest, i think you'l be unlikely to see the dog again, and if you've got permissions to service, you'd better keep on top of them, as if you dont, we all know someone else will. Sorry for you loss though, why not carry on with the bully, and see if a 'geniume working adult comes along......and despite the bad press of buying dogs at the start of the season...they do come along occasionally Quote Link to post
nighteyes 275
to be honest i wouldnt want the dog back myself, the kind of hands the dog went to would have run the c##t out of it sickened the poor thing to death, sad but true cut your losses try and beef up security abit and fecth a pup on for next season, all the best rob Quote Link to post
scent 509
hard one to call pal but i know i certainly couldn cope without a lurcher in my kenells Quote Link to post
Catcher 1 639
I agree with CHALKWARREN in 2000 i lost four good dogs over eighteen mouth.Full kennel wiped out.Lost/stolen/killed on the field.GUT WRENCHING.You can give up or start again. For me personality the choice was easy.Had dogs for 35 years.Couldent imadgen not haven them. Two good lurchers and a sprocker now.All doing well.Never give up Watchman.atb. Catcher. Quote Link to post
lofti 579
id be on the look out for a decent pup, you could be waiting for ages for a genuine adult worker to turn up, will you have room in your kennels if your if your hancock lurcher turns up mate?? Quote Link to post
Maximus Ferret 2,063
Some good advice here. I'd get another pup but I'd still be looking for the stolen bitch. You put a lot of time into her and I'd bet if/when you do get her back you'll be pleased to see her. Best of luck with whatever you do. Quote Link to post
