BSA Lightning

What are peoples opinions on the BSA Lightining, just borrowed one for a while to do some shooting, haven't had it out in the field yet.... .22 calibre

I've got the same gun, same calibre. Recoil's a little harsh, but with the right pellets (a lot of Lightnings seem to like RWS Superdomes) you can expect decent groups providing you do your bit. With spring guns you have to remember to not squeeze the gun, just hold it gently with the same pressure everytime. Good little hunter though.

i had one a couple of year ago and i thought it was a great gun,nice and compact with plenty of power.the only thing i found a problem was the trigger was a bit stiff but that could of just been that particular gun.

i was looking at the newer lightning in the shop it has a nice silencer and chequring on the stock, very nice gun

I've got one in .22. Don't use it much as I now have a rapid 7. They aren't bad but the stock is a little short for me. I looked into getting one of the new stocks with a raised cheekpieceand direct from BSA they are about sixty quid so I am thinking about it. I've had it tweaked a bit by Sandwell Fieldsports a few years ago. They put in their own internals and a two stage trigger, much better than the original unit. Not a bad gun for the money but not a patch on the precharged kit.

My mates got a supersport with a silencer fitted so is pretty much a lightning, its 20 years old and uses it every week with good results ,is a reliable hardy gun

Good gun. Shouldn't cause you any problems. Use a decent round head pellet.

I bought a BSA lightening xl a couple of weeks ago.

Set it up with hawke 3-9x40 scopes cost £248.

Nice and light weighing 6.1lbs

10" barrel fitted with silencer,pretty quite.

I shot a couple of rats down the bottom of the garden using eley wasps 5.56.at 28yards they went straight through the little feckers.

I was hoping for them to drop dead on the spot but they run a few feet and died.

I have changed pellets to crosman verminpell hoping that they will have a bit more stopping power on impact.

So well pleased with my purchase but trial and error on the pellets.

I have changed pellets to crosman verminpell hoping that they will have a bit more stopping power on impact.

 

Headshot or bodyshot? You need to be headshooting them to be assured a clean kill. Verminpells are just ordinary flathead pellets, find a decent roundhead pellet that your guns likes and stick to it.

I also bought some air arms field.

bit soft but alot accurate than the wasps.

what are your views on those.

I use AA feild in my webley exocet XS well happy with them , wont use anything else now
