AndyL 0
Anywhere at the base of the neck always works for me with pigeons or corvids (if I can't get a clear head shot). You stand a good chance of hitting the head if you err to high or vital organs if to low (if shooting from front or back). Andy Quote Link to post

matt_hooks 188
For pigeon, I prefer to take a chest shot to a head shot. A pellet slipped in under the wing will almost certainly hit something vital, whereas a head shot you risk hitting several areas that will wound without killing outright. Hit the beak, and the bird can't feed and so will starve to death slowly. A little low and hit the crop, the bird will be in massive pain, and will die slowly from infection, or starve to death because they can't feed. The head is difficult to hit, as it moves around so quickly. Between the time you decide to take the shot, and the time the pellet reaches the bird, it can have moved more than enough to make a kill shot a wound/miss. I'd go the same way with squirrel too. Have you done your research, and are allowing for the elevation of the shot? Remember that as your barrel elevation exceeds 45 degrees or so, you will need to take into account the elevation and aim low. Also judging range at high elevations is difficult! Quote Link to post
