redtailhawk1 84
Hi I have got two redtails. The female is 7 now. She is soft as a brush for me but does not like others lol. She is a very powerful hunter. I lamp with her as well. She is flying free but just getting her fit. Steve Quote Link to post
trappa 517
I think you need to work out why your wanting a redtail. Are you changing quarry to squirrels? Or are you just wanting to challenge yourself? If your changing quarry to squirrel then reds are great but the right harris can be just as deadly. If your just wanting a change then you might want to think twice, reds in this country are nothing like the ones in america. Yes, there are some good birds and many red flyers swear by them, but for every one that swears by them there are 3 that swear at them. Quote Link to post
Big red 1990 16
Thanks for the comments guys. The only reason I was after a new bird is my Harris smashed her foot so can't hunt her how I used to still fly her tho Quote Link to post
trappa 517
Thats bad news, how did that happen? As far as getting a red goes, they arent like a harris at all. If you want fun and easy flying (I KNOW I DO!) then get another harris but if you want a challenge then go for it! Quote Link to post
redtailhawk1 84
They all have their own personality and my female red is as soft as a brush. The key is not to drop their weight too quick or too low, manning and fitness is needed to make them responsive. Too many falconers are too keen on dropping the weight on BOP to make them responsive and not done enough manning and fitness work. If I lower the weight on my female too quick or too low, then I would have to watch my fingers/ hands lol. I have reds and Harris hawks and both types are good to work with. Quote Link to post
