king 11,984
frank when i had my lurcher pup she was 25 week's old and i started taking her out everytime i went ferreting she soon learned not to touch the net's when they were set by just telling her no and a very soft tap on the nose when she was pocking her nose through the purse net's now she will go up to the net's but stay a few inche's away from them and just smell the hole's i was letting her hold the rabbit's in the purse net's i dont mind if they are bruised a little i dont eat them i feed the bunnie's to the dog's and ferret's she has caught a few bolter's and if she misses 1 she will put her head right down the hole that the bolter went down for a few second's so when she comes out lately she will smell the burie's and if there is a bunny at home she will put her head right down the hole and that's the way that i know there's a bunny or 2 at home if she doesent put her head down the hole i know there's nothing at home when im ferreting she will sit in the middle of the burry on the highest bit of ground wether it be a little mound or a bump and she is watching all the hole's and is very keen last week me and my young lad went out on sunday she marked a burry and we had 3 out of that 1 so we moved on so i let the ferret go in without netting up so a few would bolt for the lurcher it was a bit of a small hill in a wood's after 2 bolted and all went down hill she decided to wait at the bottom of the hill for the bolter's so i can see she is thinking all the time about the best approach to every situation and she is only 9 month's old now and learning all the time so by the time she is about 2 yr old she should be very good hopefully when out ferreting ..good luck with your wippet frank and when she is learning her trade you will more pleased with her all the best KING Quote Link to post
