Tiff 36
at my new job I occasionally visit prisons ... the sight out this window surprised me a bit though! There were about 20 prisoners and 8 or so mounted armed guards ... the prisoners were mowing fields, and some were picking cotton and starting the rice fields on fire ... wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it! wetdogsmell 99
i seen a great documentary a few years ago about a prison warden in america, he made the prisoners work in chain gangs to pay the cost of housing them, he made them were pink overalls so nobody would take them, and they built a new prision near by and it was going to cost a fourtune to move the prisoners so he chained them together and made them all walk Edited October 5, 2010 by wetdogsmell

Bagpuss 0
I went to the Equestrian complex where they had the show jumping and eventing for the Atlanta Olympics years ago, while I was looking around I noticed the stables being mucked out by men in red overalls and a guard with a shotgun, they were from the local prison. I have always thought prisoners should pay for their time inside not ME !

He set up that "tent city" which is just a prison made out of tents.

Tiff 36
I don't see a problem with it either, just thought it was interesting! Arpaio has the right idea, he advocates a bare bones prison approach rather than the full gym/200 TV channel feeling of entitlement some jails and prisons have. I did get yelled at by the warden for what I was wearing though ... I thought a below the knee skirt, flat shoes and a regular old sweater was fine, he obviously didn't, and when I asked what would be more appropriate, he said "coveralls" Needless to say I did NOT run out and buy a pair, but I will wear long pants and a to the throat button up shirt with a sweater on top the next time I go!
