chriso 3
Got my first bunnies this evening - never even had to wait till late I managed to secure permission on a farm just up the road that has plenty of bunnies bobbing about, I even managed to try a few shots when going for a look around this afternoon. Once I get Zinis dvd's I might find out why I missed so many shots. Quote Link to post
mikeyblue 28
Great stuff mate, keep bopping em! Quote Link to post
matt_hooks 188
Christo, I'm going to type two words that almost certainly explain why you missed so many. Range estimation. Work on estimating how far away the target is. Your point of aim is different at each distance. What calibre rifle do you have? If it's a serious trouble, then invest in a laser range finder. If you get a picture of a rabbit, life size, and then look at it through the scope at various ranges. Note how big it looks at each range. Obviously different sized bunnies might confuse things, but it'll give you a good idea! Quote Link to post
chriso 3
Thanks Matt, my rifles a BSA Ultra .22. I think I did have too many long range shots. I think a lot of it was down to nervous excitement too. Quote Link to post
sibaldib 6
Top job and well done. Next and the most important thing (as stated above) is to get your ranges sorted and be accurate. I'm afraid it's just practice, practice and more practice. Good luck. Sib Quote Link to post

Wait for your DVD's to come and study them well, then get used to your rifle and settings before you attempt live targets again, enjoy yourself, there's no rush to get out dropping live target's. As already said, enjoy some target work for now, and get to know your rifle and scope, and improve your shooting skill's........then go get 'em ATB. Bill. Quote Link to post
zini 1,939
Congratulations mate on your first bunnies. I still get the same buzz after shooting a bunny now as i did when i shot my first one. The joy you get is brilliant, especially if you have put in all the practice and preparation and then it all pays off. In regards to misses mate, thats part of the game buddy and must be expected. Beleive me i miss loads of shots mate for one reason or another, wind changing at the last second, quarry moving as you squeeze off the second stage, being too cocky and thinking the shot is a given or just being a bad shot that day etc. We all have them. Everyone on here does if they were to tell the truth buddy and no one is perfect all the time. Dont beat yourself up about the misses pal, just try and learn from them. ATB DVDs are now in the post. chriso 3
Thanks Zini, I'm not that worried about missing a few. I know I have a lot to correct, distance shots, zero-ing to a better distance etc etc. I might try again tonight and just take the easier shots. Can't wait for the dvd's. Quote Link to post

Awright Chriso Practice makes perfect....or better. it makes it worth it when you get results like that I started taking bits of paper in my gun bag with a cross on it to check my zero .Just stick a wee bit of chewing gum on the back and attach it to something while you pace out your range. Its helped me learn. fry 209
i only got into this shooting a year ago and this is my first time shooting with the lamp (hard to judge distance), what i have found though is when you get familiar with your permission you often take rabbits from the same hot spots, and if you know the distance in daylight its the same in the dark. new permissions are the best its surprising how quick they wise up i swear that on my small permission they know my white van! i used to pull up an shoot one out the window before i got out now i see them hoppit as i pull up .on the missing shots issue try an pick a comfy spot within 25 yards of where they emerge lie down an rest the gun on something(i take a rucksack stuffed with a camo net) you miss a lot less with the gun steady at a closer range! be patient if they ducked in there they will pop back out sooner or later.atb Quote Link to post
