Pure Greyhounds

Recommended Posts

been out with a few not all are thick seen em doing all the jobs a lurcher can do they do lack a lot in stamina coursing grews seem to have a bit more than racers the one thing they dont lack is determination in the right hands a purebred will put a dinner on the table everytime before the saluki blood entered the coursing scene a lot of lads round my way used thoroughbreds for coursing with good results agreed they might fade after a few runs but if your not after numbers who cares seen a lot smashed up but theese were dogs that werent learnt from pups just grown dogs that hadnt been on the land before slip and close your eyes sort of thing but brought up right theres little wrong with a purebred greyhound

Just wondering really, Does anyone work or have worked Pure Greys?

I meen lamping rabbits, ferreting, ect.

I imagine they might be abit to quick for there own good?

Josh :)

I would love to see some one really test a greyhound with lurcher work, just to see what they are really capable of, I think most people get a greyhound primarily for breeding and just work them a bit therefore not really giving them the chance to prove what they are really capable of.

If anyone out there does work a pure greyhound then please put up some pics of nights lamping or ferreting and bushing trips, give us your views. I dont expect big bags on the lamp but would imagine they would do fairly well ferreting given the chance.

As i have said before i havnt any experience working dogs but love greyhounds, so, what are they really capable of?

GREYHOUNDS MAKE GOOD WORKING DOGS IF BROUGHT UP

FROM A PUPPY SOME TRACK REJECTS DO MAKE IT AND I HAVE FOUND

MAKE GOOD RABBIT HARE AND FOX DOGS

ONE BITCH I GOT OF A WELL KNOWN COURSING TRAINER LAMPED AND

RETRIEVED RABBITS AS WELL AS A AVERAGE LURCHER

ALSO JUMPED 5 BAR GATES WITH EASE

IF SOMEONE HAD ONE AS A PUPPY HE/SHE WOULD BE VERY SUPRISED

WITH THE OUTCOME ;)

would a long distance running greyhound be any better for there stamina.maybe for breeding and probably do a good nights lamping.

good hunting

The only problem with a Marathon Greyhound I would foresee is that they can be very one paced and not have the gears when they are needed and bear in mind even a Marathon racer will probably only race for less than one minute and be knackered ,

As has already been said a puppy brought up as you would bring up a lurcher would probably be a far better proposition especially if the pup was from a line of marathon dogs which are generally a bit smaller and lighter framed than sprint/standard distance dogs ;)
