ozzieowl 53
her name was bell in the day she did 4 out of 4 and she wasnt saluki cross, even though i still think you cant beat a saluki cross, bell wasnt a gambling dog but did put food on the table, stopped running her when she was 9 years old, even then she still loved a chase on an hare, best alrounder ive ever had. ozzieowl 53
you wouldnt get many consistent dogs less than 24 inches,i would bet on it. Quote Link to post
Bosun11 537
The best bitch I've had the pleasure of watching behind a hare stood at 24". I've also seen a dog of 23" kill proficiently on small & big fields up & down the country. That said and one local coursing bloke ran a dog of over 30" (if I remember right) in a few comps around 15 years ago and did very well, some on here may remember it (Jack)? I suppose what i'm trying to say is, your always better going for a good average but there are always exceptions to the rule. Quote Link to post
lord of the fens 23
Don't know much about hare coursing, but I'd have thought length of back was more important than height? your spot on there Maltenby, i knew of a fen dog that went for ALOT of money it was only 24" and like you say it was long in the body. height would only matter on thick ruff heather etc.. for obvious reasons I always liked my dogs to be square mate. lord of the fens 23
not being funny fella i do that many 6 nights a week with dogs under 23 inch 1 runin is 20 inch here last night night before i can go on and on but wont bother fella good luck in your sport nice photos mate. We know small dogs are good at rabbiting and lamping rabbits is one thing but do you think them same dogs are capable of beating a tried and tested hare dog? Personally I dont think so. I'd like to be wrong but I don't think I am. Quote Link to post
