Tyla 3,179
Me and herdwick went over to some of Water Badgers ground today for a spot of ratting. The weather was foul and when we got there the farmer had put a bale stack over part of the warren but we set to and cleared the nettles anyway, breaking the borrowed strimmer in the process We let it settle for a bit and had a go at a pile of shed panels which the dogs had marked. That produced the first two of the day. We went back to the bank and tried WB's new mark2 smoker, it worked great but we were struggling to bolt anything. In the end with a lot of digging from us and the terriers we had another two. One was caught by Douglas the beddy whippet pup, his first adult rat. We had a mouch round the barns but the dogs werent mrking much. Then Water Badger and i got sidetracked by shooting ferals with the catapults with herdwick looking slightly bemused as two grown men ran around the barns shouting and firing catapults into the rafters This lasted nearly an hour before we recovered our dignity WB having hit three and both of us having fired countless shot After a sandwich we went to another yard, there were plenty of rats but it was so cluttered we gave up and tried inside the barns. We had a sudden spurt of activity hunting mice! We moved some bags of feed and they scattered everywhere with the dogs diving all over the place. We had great fun with this underated sporting quarry, some much so that WB insisted on some trophy shots! We ended the day with 4 rats, 3 feral pigeons and 14 mice! The terriers werent keen on sitting still far an end of day shot but they tried. We all had a good day despite the weather and the dogs loved it! Thanks to Water Badger for the invite!
