steadymob 4
When I’m not drinking Dos Equis…. I’m shooting deer and digging to my dogs. LOL all joking aside, I had a pretty good day in the field. I started my day off by hitting the woods bow in hand and by 630, I was sitting in my tree taking in some of what nature has to offer. I got to watch the squirrels play and the coons sift through the leafs for food. Behind me a low growl startled me a bit. I could hear it but I couldn’t see anything. After a few moments passed the unmistakable sound of a coon huff let out inside a tree right behind me. A few coons broke out into a fight for a minute or so. It was neat to listen to but I could only imagine what was going on because they were totally hidden inside the trunk of an old tree. After the coons wrapped things up a couple yearling deer came walking through within shooting distance. One was a button buck and slightly larger then the female. The two were pretty playful. The doe stood on her hind legs for a bit hopping around swatting the button buck. It was pretty neat to see. I could careless about horns, what I was really after was a good eating doe. The two of them would have been some damn nice eating but I was looking for a little better compromise between quality and quantity. A few moments later my hopes were answered. Three does walked in so I made my choice and let an arrow fly. The shot was a little too far towards her shoulder but I still clipped lungs and she dropped 50 yards or so away. Dinner! My wife accused me of being a bit redneckish when I walked in the house and pulled the heart out the pocket of my car hart bibs. Lol Later in the afternoon I got a call from a farmer who told me he was cutting beans and five or six active looking sets were exposed so far. I hopped in my truck with Rocky and Gumby and headed out. The sets sure looked nice but we only got to work one. Rocky entered and started into a bay. I followed him and followed him for what seemed to be ten yards from the initial hole. Finally he settled in. After digging for about 5 feet I found Rocky and his prize. Late season fat hogs were my target but I had to settle with the worlds smallest possum. I guess it’s all about perspective…to rocky it probably wasn’t that small. Rocky I would guess has to be one of the smallest terriers being worked. He is five pounds soaking wet. After breaking open I was a bit disappointed that it is a possum but he did get to it and held it until dug to…LMAO. I think all possums suck so at least this one gave a good challenge from being so hard to reach. Bows, arrows, venison, terriers and terrier work. Hard to beat! Quote Link to post
