ban is just a word 43
anything with some sort of terrier in there should do the job, bull x's are overated if you ask me although they all seem too be very game, my personal choice is a deerhound x. the best foxing dog iv seen is a bedlington whippet greyhound dog 21 inches too the shoulder and game as f**k, very aggressive and no foxes get away injured they either get away without a scratch or they dont get away at all, he just lacks in top end speed. i hope my girl makes the grade saluki/whippet/collie/greyhound x deerhound/greyhound ferns first walk.bmp Quote Link to post

Chid 6,535
a well bred lurcher x lurcher out of fox killing parents would be my choice weather they had bull in them or not i wouldnt really care. to say a certain type or cross is the ultimate foxing dog is a load of bollox and breed/kennel blindness if you notice most people say the best dog for a certain job is the dog they have sat in there kennel .. judge2010 196
Im interested to know about people opinion about what breed would make the best foxing dog. Ive got a bull cross but find they dont turn as well as many other crosses, and do miss quite alot on the lamp, where as my other lurcher has got a better catch rate but not as game. Im looking to buy a new pup but fields are small in kent, so need a dog which is fast and can turn which can also do it single handed. Im thinking of a bedlington cross but what im wanting to know are they strong enough? bull lurcher, the ones me and terrier-man-mark so saw on sunday looked like they could take a poler bear down. very impressive dogs they belong to a lad on here as well. Red Collar 28
First of all i'd start by saying, ain't no such thing as the 'ultimate fox dog', it don't exist yet! As for your bull cross being poor on the turn, well IMO, that can be very much down to you. How much graft has it had, what quarry do you run, how often, is it the right weight etc, all can have a detrimental effect to a dogs turning ability. I've ran half cross bulls for a few years now, I know there are many crosses that can turn better BUT nowt wrong with my dogs 'angles'! Pre-ban, if your looking to kill foxes on small fields it wouldn't matter what cross I had, just that it's seen plenty of graft, on all quarry, bunnys especially AND I had my 'calling' as good as I could get it, because if its small fields, you need to get that fox in as close as possible. As always mate, a very sensible post I will also add that I would have serious doubts about beddy type crosses taking big dog foxes in numbers, specially back end of January/Febuary?..... All breeds ,crosses have good fox dogs in them none more than others,I have caught plenty of fox over the years in my experience a good lurcher with some deerhound in can catch more than a bull x can catch as for killing foxes bulls r harder but they gotta catch them first.I'm not saying bull x can't catch fox coz I seen som good ones, just a lighter framed dog maybe catch more Quote Link to post
