rushty 1
A couple of years ago we were invited to use our terriers (Plummers) on a scrap yard / demolition yard/ skip hire company kind of thing. There was plenty of rats but because of the glass etc among the rubbish our dogs were coming home cut to ribbons etc and so we decided it wasnt safe enough for them and we explained to the company and we didnt go back. Sitting having a drink with my hunting partner and talking about our evening exploits with the NV and our air guns it suddenly dawned on us that the place we used our dogs on was ideal if not perfect for shooting in the dark. Anyhow on Tuesday gone I visited the place again and asked if we could come down with our guns , his reply was not only yes but yes with a smile as if he had ben waiting for us. I arranged to meet the Security guard at 7.30pm and right on time we arrived with the guard waiting for us. A nice fella he said " yes theres a few about but not as many as I have seen in the past". I looked at my mate with a frown but we were there so we would just get on with it. On route to the place we fancied there would be rats we came across a heap of fresh soil/rubbish and there was 3 rats feeding , by the time we got our scopes sighted etc two of them fled but the third ended up being the first kill of the night. A smile was returning to our face , which never left us all night because when we reached our favoured place the rubbish heap was crawling with long tails and we set about our task. There were some of the biggest rats I have seen in my life , anyhow we stayed three hours and between us we got 50 odd rats. I took no camera with me this time but I will on Sunday evening when round 2 will begin. The place is about 3 acres altogether and nearly everywhere houses rats, thetre is no poison put down because they arent that botherd about them so numbers will always be high. God knows how we never thought about this place earlier.... but there you go. I will post some pics after Sundays trip , hopefully of the kills and of the set up... we are abs. delighted, cheers , a very happy ted Quote Link to post
