is a beddy whippet capable of doing hares on the lamp or daytime single handed, consistantly?? i was just wondering as my beddy/whippet seems to have the speed and the turning but only being young hasnt quite got the changeing gears thing down, so i was just wondering if a beddy whippet would do long ears. not saying thats what im gonna do

That was my 1st ever lurcher beddy x whippet great wee loyal bitch on rabbits and charlie but anytime she came up agains a hare it just never happen

i dont think he is just beddy/whippet, i think there could be a touch of grey but unsure, he stands about 23.5" or so, his coat isnt long or wooly, its just a bit rough but gos knows will try get some pics up,

At 23.5" and still a young dog I dont think youve got just a beddy/whippet but to answer your original post I wouldn,t go looking to chase longears with a beddywhippet preban of course there game little dogs alright but the exertion can take too much out of em and f**k the rest of your night up, best save em for what thier bred for rabbits atb nasher

my bitch is 21" and pretty fast, and shes got them up out of seat, but the hare just plays with her, they dont even put there ears down! youve got to give them a fair chance to say they can do them properly? and depending on what time of year, i.e full of young or full of milk! and type of ground:thumbdown: you get one jan or feb winter hare not in young, day time that is! not on lamp!THEN you,ll see what sort of athletic animal youre dealing with. they made my bitch look like a selling plate PRE BAN! FACT!

Now the whippet of the seat or 20 yards up has a chance but when breed to the bedlington the speed is lost for gameness i have a beddy whippet grey in my avatar pic i wouldnt dream of putting her single handed on hares in season, break a dog quickly that will.post-18456-053243800 1285877354_thumb.jpg

i dont see the benefit on possibly ruining a young beddy whippet dog on a hare.sure theyd catch the odd ones if it on the dogs terms but a healthy grown hare in open land?.. more often than not youl just end up with a frustrated, fed up dog.same thing for charlies, yes thel do it and yes some love it but i think that a larger more specificaly bred dog would do this slightly easier than mentioned cross.

everyone knows that beddywhippets make exellent rabbiting dogs(i have one, only pup) so enjoy it for what it is and if one pops up so be it but i personnally wouldnt go looking..

only my opinion. atb any way pal

Dont think he asked if there was any benifit, just was wondering if they would do them...And as for the fox part, couldnt disagree more, how many have you seen jack on a fox, rather than how many have you seen catch one?

The post i put on here about day time, night time hares. A lot of people who didnt agree with lamping hares(preban) said that any old rag arse of a dog could catch them in the lamp. So what is it to be...

It all depends on the terrain and the size of ground your hunting... Most people who say a 20yrd slip on a hare on open ground will be right, and the beddy wont have a chance.. One jumping up, already boxed in with walls and fences will probarbly be caught(if the dog has a good mouth)...

my dog is at 11 months and is 23.5 inch tts. like said i didnt say i had done them i asked if they could do them, and yes half of you always twine on sayin g any dog can clip a hare on the lamp, so therefore mine should be able to, or do youse all just say this to rile folk up
