redcas 5
My bitch had her first litter three weeks ago, shes 4 years old and I have been trying my best to catch her in season so I could get a litter out of her. In April this year I noticed she was looking like coming into season so I waited and nothing much happened (like every other year) after wondering if she was ever going to come into season I took her to the vets and he took a swab sample and the next day he rang and told me that she would be ready for a dog any day, afterwards he advised me to pop in every 3 days to monitor any changes, after a few more trips and a £100 bill there was still no sign of anything happening so I called it a day (it was now nearing the end of April). During the middle of June my younger bitch came into season and she is kennelled with the dog, I didnt want to breed from her yet so I swapped her with the older bitch to avoid an unnecessary litter, the dog and the older bitch were together and everything seemed fine, the younger bitch finished her heat cycle and went back into the kennel with the dog. Few weeks later and hey presto the funny thing was that when she was in with the dog he hardly took any notice of her, I suppose this is what you call a silent heat, never had the problem with any of my other bitches I have bred from. At least next year I will know what to expect. Quote Link to post
