CarraghsGem 92
Thanks for some good comments and sujestions...but she is no longer with me,im not going to be worried sick everytime she is out of my sight and either would i be held responsible if she took hold of a ewe when the other lads dogs are with her, thats a selfish thing to do on my behalf, that wont be 1 dog gone but several..we will not take the chance, and she knows damm well the differance between a rabbit/fox/hare and sheep weather its black white or any other colour...and has for work she had seen from jan - march prob 15 16 good kills day and night...like i said thanks for the comments and advice but im not running the risk Quote Link to post
shushycatcher 219
Sounds like a waste of a good young dog to me.Time and effort would have sorted it. PTS in my opinion was wrong, but your dog your choice, atb with your other two. Quote Link to post
Guest GoneToGround1
best thing you could of done was just PTS without telling the hunting life why. you know what people are like on here for disagreeing with other people etc. ATB Quote Link to post

shotup 9
ive know 3 dogs that were bomb proof in my life turn and worry sheep after being hunted through them for years and each time there has been a heavy mist on the hills.something triggers off the kill insinct in mist in some dogs so i allways hold them close in when hunting in fimiliar conditions.you do right in my opinion to pts any dog that starts worrying as you will never settle when out hunting in sheep and the next time the farmer or keeper will be with you.. But the point I think that you are missing is that the dog let him down. The dog failed. The dog didn't try its best to please him that day. It failed. If a dog worries sheep and the owner is prosecuted there can be a lot more to pay than just the price of one ewe. There could be fines for having a dog out of control in a public place. As well as the damage to the flock. A dog chasing sheep may only catch one, but it could make many others abort their lambs through stress. There is such a thing as knowing the land you hunt, but sheep can be moved fields. Or if the dog hunts out of sight it could find the sheep before the handler knows they are there. I would hope that milo has respect for his dogs, and treats them well, as I am sure he does. In my mind he has shown this bitch respect by giving her a clean and quick death, rather than passing her on to some poor newbie, to join the lurcher merry-go-round. Quote Link to post
milo 74
Thanks for all the genuine comments, but people who think that this woulndt happen again are fooling themselves...and i for 1 woulndt hunt with any of you if you had a dog that did this,or would any farmers/landowners have you or you dogs upon their land. I need to have all my dogs 100% stock broken!this bitch killed a ewe in secounds,if she was away hunting out of sight for "say"20 min how much damage would she cause if she did this then !and id be fuc..d if i sell her on to the dick heads that feed their animals on swill and dont give a flying fuc..k wether they hunt this week or next..and then she gets past on from 1 owner to the next,i was taught by some of the best hunting men that prob walked this soil and i know far a fact that he and most men i know whos been hunting for years would have done the same has me,and another thing if my other two had joined in they been gone also..has for the people who give stupid silly comments you obviosly have sheep killers in you kennells...TIDY Quote Link to post

foyrious 13
I have to say... what a sorry state of affairs.. Are you saying that just because a dog kills a sheep when you're out coursing reynard, that means that there isn't really decent and rewarding homes out there for lurchers, just because they might only be able to course rabbits on arable farms?? makes me sick that you could play god with an obviously normal dogs life!!! It's people like you that give 'hunters' a bad name as being archaic killers. You wander why m.p's are winning the fight against hunting.. If we don't respect our dogs, how can you respect it's quarry. It's your fault entirely... Don't run your dogs anywhere near sheep...moving targets end up with dead dogs When they crash... thats if it survives your HAIR TRIGGER!!! Edited September 29, 2010 by foyrious Quote Link to post
