pianoman 3,587
That's really kind of you Bill thanks mate. A good timber supplier is always good to know. I'm busy with a lot of work on, and what spare time I do have, I need to get out shooting whenever the 'Minister for War' has no need of me on the home front and I vowed I'd get the HW80K project finished this year. I must admit I've got the mulling bit well underway though! Rosewood...lovely! ATB Simon Quote Link to post

pianoman 3,587
Thank you Spanishfly. I've finally fitted the new Rekord trigger yesterday morning 6th Nov. Just had a lovely Sunday out in the autumn sunshine with the HW80k on my permission and fine-adjusted it. I swear you can virtually finetune your zero with these triggers. Hit sub one-inch 5-shot groups at ranges way beyond my usual 30 metre hunting zero. I guess this rifle's restoration is fit to call finished and fit to hunt. It really is a wonderful reward to see a lot of patient, careful work come so well together. Gonna have a think about making that stock for her now. Before the Minister For War gives me something not so pleasing to fix up. Very chuffed! Simon Edited November 7, 2010 by pianoman Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
Nice one, Simon, really glad you got it all sorted. They are a top class bit of kit, those Rekord triggers. They make accurate shooting so much easier. I let a mate of mine have a go with my HW90 ( Elite trigger but it's just a modified Rekord really ) and he couldn't believe the difference to the Lighting he's been useing for the past couple of years. Cheers. Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
Andy thanks for that kind response mate. I absolutely love Weihrauch sporting rifles and restoring this old HW80K from a virtual pile of rust, battered stock and a graunching, broken spring to a good-as-new sweet shooting, precision accurate, tuned hunter has been a challenge and a labour of love and I'm really proud of how well it's gone. I must say I'd like try the HW90 and that Theoben gas ram system for myself Andy, is it as consistent as it sounds?. I've promised myself a new tuned HW77 standard rifle; I've been itching to get one for ages. There's very little between the Rekord and Elite triggers; both are superbly sensitive and you can produce a set up that's truly precise and unique to your shooting style. I know of no other that is so easy to set up, yet so effective. Only Air Arms CD unit comes close. Cheers mate Simon Edited November 7, 2010 by pianoman Quote Link to post

I had an when they first came out, then a 77 and they were both great springers and they still are. I've had my 90 for about twelve years now first in .177 but I changed to a .20 barrel a couple of years ago. They are really nice to shoot, low recoil for a springer and VERY smooth. The only problem I've ever had with it was after my second son was born eight years ago, I didn't use it for about a year (bloody work!!!) and the ram lost a little pressure but since it's been pumped and used regularly, it's been perfect. Mine wears a Leapers 2-7x32 scope, Parker Hale R/F mod and it shoots best with Baracudas and Dynamic SPC5's. I've sold off a lot of my gear this past years 'cos money's been tight but the 90 is the only one I'll never part with. Cheers. Andy. Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
Hi Andy Sorry to hear about the cash situation causing a sell-off of your gear mate, lot of that in these times. I'm in a similar hole with work getting thin but, I'll never sell my springers. We need a sport and an escape for a day, more than ever. Just got to hang in and tough it out I suppose. Noted you're a West Yorkshire lad. Me too, from Pontefract. I shoot over Wentbridge/Kirk Smeaton way if you know the area. It's been very thin on rabbits this season and theres been a few I've shot suffering with Mixy. On this particular HW80 I have a Simmons Pro Air 6-18x40 and a Venomtech slimline silencer -effective too, and been using H&N Field & Target Trophy .22. I'm going to try your H&N Barracudas and Dynamic SPC5 pellets in .22. If they are great in your HW90's barrel, they might prove the same in mine. I'm seriously liking the sound of your rifle in .20. Must check that calibre out. Cheers Andy. Simon Quote Link to post

It really is very small but it's good for practice and I do get a few bunnies from it and so far this year there's been no mixie. If you fancy meeting at either mine or your's, then that's cool. I'll bring my old RWS52 along too, that's a right old tool!! That's if I've not got to sell that first... I wouldn't recomend the Baracudas in .22, they're very heavy and in sub 12ft-lb's they fly very slowly and it can be really hard to judge where to aim at longer ranges, pluss in a springer you'll find very heavy pellets will produce a lower power. The Dynamics work well in every gun I've tried them in. Their TM1's are the best pellets I've found for the 52 and the PCP2's work the best for my King Ratty. Give me a shout and we'll get something sorted. Cheers. Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
That would be great Andy. thank you. There's no problem bringing a guest on mine either. Got some lovely fields and a woodland. Usually plenty of Rabbits, woodies and the odd squirrel, Crow or Magpie or two. Tell the world to feck off and keep your RWS 52 too! Gonna have a look at how my work schedule runs (I'm a pro musician -means funny days and hours) and we'll sort something out and meet up. Cheers for now mate Simon. Quote Link to post
