Need to do some mentored fox shoots for FAC

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I have been informed by my FEO that he will happily put a positive note against an application from me for .22 and 17hmr, However if I want CF for fox , 223, then he suggested that before I put in the application that I get out with a few people and get some foxing done. He would then ring up the 'mentors' for their opinion as to my safety/skills etc and, again would be happy to put that calibre in the application in a positive note.

I do have a few friends who shoot CF etc but I am looking for some more people who would be happy to help me out when on shoots using CF.

Im in Bangor, north Wales area and happy to travel.

PM me for more details and if you can help 'pre-mentor me' prior to the fac application.

Im ex UK military so not a numpty with weapons handling- however as the FEO said 'shooting safely in a rural foxing environment isnt quiet the same as combat shooting where the descision about safe back stops doesnt always apply - how true!

Cheers.

M

I would like to think that you would be shown safe shooting and rifle handling as part of your basic training with the military, and therefore you would be the ideal candidate to hold CF rifle on your FAC, just to point out the same rules apply when using .22 and 17hmr regarding safety, in my opinion yor FEO is talking crap, if you are suitable for one firearm you are suitable for any if you have a valid reason to hold the calibre you are applying for, i take it he only put a posotive note on your FAC application for .22 and 17hmr after mentoring for these ???

:hmm:

Nope, If I applied for rimfire - no problem, but he suggested some experience with 223 shooting foxes before putting in application, now I know this is not what the law states, believe me, and a back stop is a back stop, if you can see dirt behind your quarry you have a backstop of sorts, I do agree that the bigger the calibre the more efficient the back stop should be.

I dont want to get in to a debate about mentoring conditions that some forces are putting on FAC, the safety of different calibre etc etc as I am fully aware of these things.

Im just after the help of some landowners/shooting rights owners who would mentor me with 223 for a short while on their land.

I could however just pick the best land permission I have that suits 223 and put the application in and wait to see what happens, and then if any mentoring condition is attached for 223 to hand the details over to BACS to sort out, as Im aware they are having a few similar issues allready ongoing.

Shame it wasn't a couple of months ago as I was down in North Wales loads whilst visiting my Mum who was in Ysybty Bangor !:wallbash: I won't be back that way for a while, sadly she passed away and although my old man still lives in Pwllheli he is such hard work, so I won't be visiting for a while.:realmad:

Great part of the world the lleyn Peninsula, with such varied terrain, even saw some cubs in the fields on the way into Bangor when I was down in August . Good luck anyway. If you are ever up this way I would be happy to take you out:thumbs:
