I can remember as far back as the late 60,s that all fairgronds used 22lr on the shooting gallerys back then, surprised that the laws still allow this. Quote Link to post

matt_hooks 188
I was at a countryside fair a couple of years ago, 2007 or 08 I think, and there was a gallery range there with .22's. Not seen one since though. Quote Link to post

LD That's what I thought. LR case with .22 short powder load. The rifles were always chained to the booth. Fun tho'. Still got me marksman badges from the booth in Sandown. 10 million tons of chalk make a pretty good backstop. Quote Link to post

micky 3,325
i am not certain ,but i thought fairground guns were smooth bores,in the 60s iwas given a box of bullets by a showman, there was a 1000 in the box and they were called SPLATTER PROOF,they were made of a compressed material ,i shot a lot of rabbits out of that box Quote Link to post
sy247 0
We were talking about this the other night at my shooting club and someone said the bullets were not lead but some other material. Quote Link to post
Captain Keg 2
At the Yorkshire Gamefair earlier this year at Harewood House there was a .22 range set up with .22 semi autos, rounds looked the same as my .22RFs Quote Link to post
matt_hooks 188
All the fairground gallery ranges I've seen have used a .22LR case, and a light lead bullet, with a minimal charge in the case, basically just the primer. You don't need much energy to go 10 yards! Quote Link to post
