Hey. New to this site. Used to be real active on terrier central. I know some names from some of my buddies and i remember a few of you - Uphilldoc, stuntman - heard of Dan Edwards. I'd like to get in touch with some more guys working terriers this side of the pond. Seems good workers are slim pickins these days round my parts of the woods. My buddies and I mostly keep to ourselves hunting coon and whatever our dogs can tree or run to ground. We've got Jag/fell crosses with a dash of working fox terrier thrown in. Recently decided it would be good to know what's happening in the rest of the terrier world. Had a good start to the fall season with 5 coon and 5 nutria with the pups getting into some trash on the side this past week. I'd like to hear from some of ya'll

I was Mosby on terriercentral as well.

I think the jag/fells have the best of both worlds for what I need. The jag I throw in for the sake of the noise Erik doesn't care for.lol I like a dog to give a lot of voice to his game and tree if he's got the idea for it. The fells give good coat, build and, the main reason to mix the two, obedience. Mine range pretty far tracking. I lean more toward jagd qualities in hunting traits as they seem to be a more independent dog but the fell gives them much needed obedience. The noses on the crosses seem to be good. All my dogs go to ground and are mixers when alone, when together they keep their holds. They give voice on hot hot tracks or when with the hounds and tree on occasion. I'm trying my darndest to get a line going that consistently trees. It's hard to find a terrier that does so consistently though (plus it's gotta have grit and go to ground). We put a working bred fox terrier (used for bobcats in rocks) over a 3/4fell 1/4 jag hoping to get some more tree in them. They give good voice and one trees well enough. My buddies and I are doing another breeding to that fox and a fell bitch of ours to see if we can't get some more of that in there. Most of our dogs are more lakie looking I'd say than anything. We've got roughs and smooths, blacks, reds, black and tans. I keep reds my buddy takes the blacks. Not that color makes any difference to the working but I like to have as uniform a yard as I can.

 

Hope that answers your questions bout Jagd/fells. I can only speak for the ones I'm working with. Though I have had other peoples breeding on my yard and they worked more like fells than jagds. The only difference I saw from adding the jagd in those was dog aggression but they could catch and hold game too.

i'm in the midwest mainly after coon but seem to catch a bobcat or two each season. we also have 2 jagd crosses, a lakeland but hunt patterdales as they are a way better fit for ourstyle of hunting.

Good talking to you again Adam... Will defenitly be down in Albany area the 21th-24th. We normaly meet at the A&W off of Hwy34 exit off of the I-5 at around 8am. Am going to call the guy with the slough this this week to make sure we are cleared. Lot of coon and beaver, I will bring my Lurcher Red Dog and my Nuttall male Mac. Plus the two Russell guys Ray and Brett but they are only bringing 2 pups.
