More Foxes

Recommended Posts

Thought I'd post some more photos showing the successful outcomes of some of my recent Foxing outings. Most people on here seem to appreciate photos in posts, and I don't intend to offend anyone by posting images of dead animals, so if someone doesn't like that sort of thing then simple, don't look!

These Foxes had all been causing damage to farm livestock and/or poults, therefore removing them from the equation was necessary.

I think the most memorable of these Foxes, was one which I came accross at dusk recently. I was heading back to the farm after an unsuccessfull couple of hours sat in one of my favourite spots, and I decided to have a quick scan along a hedgeback where Foxes often travel, suddenly about 50 yards away a Fox appeared as though from nowhere through a gate to my left, and started to sniff around. The rifle was on my shoulder, and as I slowly tried to remove it, the Fox looked up and stared straight at me. I was standing alongside a gate post, and I think the Fox was unsure whether there was danger or not. With a steady breeze blowing from it to me, there were no worries of it scenting me so I just stood stock still until after what seemed ages, the Fox started off at a brisk trot away from me heading towards a small wood, slightly uphill which gave a safe backdrop for a shot. I had just enough time to unshoulder the Rifle, rest on the gatepost and line up the cross hairs, then a gentle squeek made it look over its shoulder, and I squeesed off the shot and it dropped, never knowing what hit it. Not what I'd call the best shot I've ever pulled off, but a very satisfying one.
