This thread is sounding like something off a German Shepherd forum, show line people thinking their dogs can work like working line - DELUSIONAL- You can't tell them, dream on.

I'm glad somebody has seen it.

Is'nt it typical, somebody miles away knows more about our dogs than we do..

Did I say that I did? I aint got a clue about your dogs and never said I did. I dont believe a f****n word you are sayin but that aint got shit to do with your dogs. I dont think you are lyin, I just dont think you know sheep shit from apple sauce.

 My opinion is that if a pure saluki was the dog for the job then those that are extremely serious about the job would own nothing but them.

Sp what are the top working lines other than doxhope or platts stuff they can't be the only two in the country who breed workers

theres alot of lads breeding true workers just keep quiet about it

Theres not many as you think breeding true workers, unless you live in Ireland, some people kill the odd rabbit with their deerhound and it automatically becomes a working deerhound. Pre ban at organised deerhound coursing I witnessed deerhounds that wouldnt run a hare that lifted in front of them, or ones that were running so half heartedly it was un-reasl, then, there were the propper workers. The ones that were crap were later advertised as working deerhounds. "The deerhound club dosnt want working deerhounds" and only a small number of enthusiasts have ever tried truely to keep the breed a working one. Deerhound people want show dogs, thats what, for them, gets the stud fees, puppy sales wins a championship shows etc. Some tried to just on the bandwagon of advertising their deerhounds ar work/show..Another piece of crap, a show dog needs to look like a wolfhound, a worker needs to be able to work.

Of course some show lines did work as well as show, and Ive had the great pleasure to have witnessed some of the best of this (small bunch)..but not now. Rosslyn Carrick (half sister to one of my deerhounds)was then record holder of having the most CC`s in the breed was a cracking coursing bitch, there are others too. There were breeds whose owners rarely entered the coursing arena but whose deerhounds produced good workers (Rosslyn, Rohanis, Ingleby) Classing a deerhound to be a worker because its killed the odd rabbit or hare is not enough imo..they have to do the job season after season after season.

So would you be able to help me find a good solid breeder of working deerhounds then ? Many thanks

Sure can, Ive pm`d you

The sire to my dog who's now eight, was a Kilbourne Deerhound going back to Arkinglass.. Infact, I'd say most Deerhounds went back to Arkinglass - these dogs were "dual" purpose as everyone who knowns Deerhound breeding should know....

I cant see how in the relative short time of the Hunting Ban how the working ability has been bred out of the kennels that show.. It's no difference to Kennel Club registerd Saluki's.. They can still do the job..

These "show" deerhounds I've seen lived up to their name..

Most deerhounds do have Arkinglass in there breeding, my bitch has both Kilbourne and quite a lot Arkinglass

in hers, miss noble did out cross you know though, at one point in her line, but i cant remember if the out crossed

line was left to die out or if she did use the out cross's in her breeding, she quite often from what i know of

would take her dogs corsing one day and the next stright in to the show ring, never bathed them or even brushed them over.

The decline of the pray instint isnt just recent - its possable that its been declining for the last 150 years,

when hunting with guns started to be prefared - to deerhounds.

I'm getting a pure Deerhound bitch puppy to join my eight year old first cross, wich was also bred by the same person.. Wich will be a pure 100% Kilbourne/Arkinglass.. Both it's parents learnt to take large game with minimal damage to the carcase, and not an arse biter like some Bull crosses..

They are more than perfectly capable of catching rabbits/hares as well as larger stuff Pre Ban of course. the pure ones I've seen hated foxes.. :whistling:

Deerhounds have a huge length of stride and decent stamina and they do it for me.. Below is a pic of my first cross chasing, I know there is three dogs, but it was a chanced encounter on a January morning knock about :whistling: ..

Do you honestly f****n believe that?

I've seen it with my own eyes at Saluki coursing meets before the ban... So I honestly f****n believe that.. Ruweis Salukis - Karen Fisher - The home of smooth and feathered Salukis from recent desert bred origins, is well known for showing her Salukis and did very well at coursing meets in the past.. And she aint the only one..

Below is a "show" bred saluki from before the UK hunting ban owned by a good friend.. That saluki is now 13 and has two CC'S and 1 Reserve CC from the show ring..

Photo looks posed to me, snow all over deer likes its been rolling in it, dog no snow except where it's face has touched the deer :hmm:

I could put up the other photos to accompany the above pic (pre Ban) but There action shots, and I'm sure they will be pulled off by a Moderator..

As far as im aware of - there is no split between deerhounds, there is no such thing as show lines and working lines with in deerhounds - never have been, and yes "show lines" can and do work, will admit not as good as a lurcher, but they do work

think you need to open you eyes up love.
