Hi mate and welcome to the world of the working lurcher, Lurchermania hit the nail on the head feeding is basically down to the owner prefrence and time of year. I think most importantly is getting down with the basic's sit, lie down, stay ect always try to keep it playful when teaching a pup. One question what sort of work are you looking to do lamping, ferreting or just a genral mooching lurcher? Was it one of your freind's who influanced your decision in the breeding you choose the dog will be a speed machine with that breeding and bedlington breed lurchers make excellent lamping dogs.Hope all goes well mucker.

welcome to the site.put plenty of time in training and be patient, read some books, don,t over excercise your pup while it is only young, wait until it is at least nine months old before you start hunting with your dog(entering).if you put the time in the pup will reward you.atb.

Great book to try Brain Plummer the complete lurcher.

thanks for those of you who have helped to everyone else i know how to feed and look after a dog as i have two other dogs that are very fit and healthy. i am not the type of person to give up on a dog i know i will only get out what i put into her. and i just want the best for her. to be honest some of my friends dont deserve dogs because i dont feel as though they look after them well enough that is why i am asking questions. i did learn some things from them but not a great deal so thats why i want to learn more. i dont want to ruin her so i want to know as much as i can. right shes 4 months old and her mum was 3\4 greyhound 1\4 bedlington and dad was 1/2 greyhound 1/2 whippet at the moment i am feeding her dr johns dog food mixed with tuna and also some tinned meat. before i bought her she was just fed scraps of meat. i have wormed and flead her and started basic commands sit and fetch so far. she is kept outside in a garage with another dog and she has the run of the garden all day. i walk her twice a day for 30 mins to an hour. she can be a little nervous around other dogs but soon starts playing with them she is very gentle and quiet and likes to sleep and chill out

Sorry if I came across the wrong way mate, as Matty says I should have been less eager to condemn your first post.

Reading this one you come across as just wanting the best for your dog so I hope it does all you want in the future.

i have wanted a lurcher for a long time but never wanted all the hard work that comes with it. so i finally decided to pull my finger out and get on with it. il be doing abit of everything with her but it will be mainly lamping. the breeding i dont really know much about but have been told shes got good breeding by a few people. i am really looking forward to getting her working but i dont want to rush. i will try and get the complete lurcher book. no problem steve i didnt really help myself the way i put things i do love my dogs and they have the best i can give them. i do know how to look after and care for a dog but i have never owned a lurcher and just wanted to do things right
