beddyx 27
why do you lot (you know who you are) argue on here and force good topics to be locked example (the ultimate rabbit dog) Quote Link to post
stainlee 27
I agree that people who have different opinions should express them in a reasonable way ,without the personal insults and beligerant attitude , but calling people idiots just sets the tone for another slagging match . Ideation 8,216
I'm with you, even though i was involved (for which i apologize). What gets me is folk always wading in with generalizations which usually go 'xxx cross or breed are ALL shit', and when you try to argue that you have seen or own a good one, then they proceed to tell you, you are an idiot and not a 'real' dog man etc. And then offer you out to either fight, or run your dog against theirs for money. Just because YOU have not seen something does not mean it does not exist and if you were civil and kept quiet you may have your opinion changed / learn something, and if not then your happy in your belief and no harm done, but where is the need to get personal? Wild Whippies 11
They say every greyhound has it's winning distance and every greyhound is well bred. I don't believe a specific breed is multipurpose. They all have areas in which they excel be it the quarry they're coursing, the distance their running and the terrain it's on. All this is with the presumption that the owner is a decent ''dog'' man. I'm not denying there may well be dogs that are considered to be ''multi purpose'' by their owners (and especially breeders!) but personally I think a more accurate summary would be to say they are ''jacks of all trades'' and experts at none. Whether an owner has the ability to recognise a dogs skills along with it's flaws and adapt as appropiate to get the very best out of their dog can be another matter. So when an individual states a particular dog is crap, I'm more inclined to think it's the owner who's just poor at getting the best out of a dog. johnny boy68 11,726
As a rabbiting dog you wouldn't go far wrong with a collie/grey seen a lot of this breeding excel on rabbits, also seen bitzas do a good job but as for a particular breed being the best there isn't IMO.Theres so many variations these days its a question you won't get a definate answer to though. poacher3161 1,766
A mix of grey/beddy and whippet make excellant rabbiting lurchers. Some f1x grey/collies i have seen and owned were just not sharp and pacey enough to catch rabbits in tight situations like bolting from cover and only haveing a short distance to run. These dogs were some of the best rabbit catchers i saw years ago the caithness dogs owned by T.Mc.
