Tiff 36
sorry to hear about your litter .... in my opinion people blame puppies dying on the very vaguely named fading puppy syndrome, when it is really more likely things such as an unhealthy bitch, puppies getting cold, not being strong enough to nurse properly, or bitches shining on certain pups. If it was my bitch I would try again ... before breeding worm both the dog and the bitch really well for everything; change her to a full, well balanced flesh/fats/veg/rice etc diet. The bitch should be moved into the whelping room/kennel 10 days beforehand to settle her in. When the pups have been born have a heat lamp on, they need to have 90-95 degree heat for the first few days, and no drafts. The first few days is the most critical ... good luck second time around! Guest chook
Normaly if they die with in the first few days, its most likily caused by an infection passed down from the bitch. http://www.wolfweb.com.au/acd/fadingpupsyn.html although this wont help now, but for future - if you ever go throught this again. if the pups are worth it and your willing to pay then there have been a few sucess's of useing plasma transfusion on fading pups. http://www.dogsey.com/showthread.php?t=72095
Mrs A.R.D 53
iv never had a case of fps and this i think is why.... i give 1 dose of synolux or similar anti-biotics 1 week before mateing and another 1 week before whelping, keep the pups as warm as possible without over heating for the first 2 weeks of life as far as i know this has worked for me. The first sign of pfs is a drop in weight, i weigh my pups at birth and every day till older than 2 weeks. sorry for your loss mate! atvb

paca 4
just got synulox and ive been administering it to the bitch, it seems these symptoms resulting in pups dying has been frequent around certain reputable greyhound and lab\springer breeders further north, that ive spoken to, as for vets they havent a clue what it is and ive found all your posts more than helpful!!! thanks to all of you for your replies....cheers paca

collie/grey 238
Canine herpes is a regular cause of fps, we had a greyhound bitch here who had it, the herpes flared up just before she gave birth and the pups got it when being born, she had a litter of 10 and they all died, she was mated again and she had a vaccine i think 2 weeks after being mated and again 2 weeks before pups were due and the whole litter survived 11 of them. Theres many causes for fps but i beleive this is the main cause these days. Good luck for the future!
