lurchergrrl 1,441
thats a nice whippet lurcher girl can the people that have worked there whippets at night tell us what they were like how much tamina and how hardy were they please only first hand experiance not opinions Thank you staffs I can't really comment about stamina with regards to working at night. To date I've only ever had him out a few hours at a time, as both of us are still learning the lamping business. That said, in the day time, he never ever gets tired and it seems to me that he can just go go go endlessly. And hardy .... well what can I say? I joke that he's coated in teflon Out in all weathers, on all kinds of terrain, through trees etc., and is always up for more. I love my whippet Quote Link to post

Sonny Brindle 2
thats a nice whippet lurcher girl can the people that have worked there whippets at night tell us what they were like how much tamina and how hardy were they please only first hand experiance not opinions While whippets don't generally have as much stamina as some types of lurcher, they are certainly capable of a good night's shift on the lamp, and are great fun to watch. Obviously you get out what you put in to some extent, so the more you work a whippet, the more stamina it will build up as it gets fit. As for hardiness, they are tougher than they look. The weather won't bother them if you keep them busy on the lamp (although mine does feel the cold if he's stood around ferreting in grim weather), they can take knocks and bounce back better than you'd think, and their feet are generally pretty good. However they can cut easily due to thin skin and a fine coat. Then there is the height issue – they are obviously more suited to some types of terrain than others, as they will struggle to see their quarry in long stuff. They are not the most efficient lamping dogs, as they tend not to "run clever" but give it 100 per cent on every slip. If it's sport and entertainment you're after, a good whippet won't let you down but if huge bags every night are your thing, then probably best to look elsewhere. Quote Link to post
