my hob does it with dead or alive rabbits seems to be only when theres other ferrets to ground though so maybe in his attempts to keep his catch from other ferrets he ends up comin out of sett altogether, thats just my opinion on my ferret by way nobody elses

i had a hob ferret who i never dug to, when i did kill below ground he always dragged it up to show me, he would drag it to the surface then bound over to me chirpping away, his daughter has a similar trait in that i've never had to dig to her but she doesn't seem to want to show off as much, she'll drag rabbit til just inside the enterence then go back down to check for any more, i wouldn't worry much about it at all, i've also had rabbits bolt with a ferret latched on and the dog has had to be careful how to catch

....Reversing out of the burrow hanging on to the eye socket seems to be a speciality of my two jills, for one they are just not strong enough to kill underground,so anything that holds up gets a dragging...Its great to see and funny but bloody hell It must be horrible!

I used to have a hob ferret (called Watson) that would kill rabbits and then drag them out of the hedge - and did so on several occasions.

More than once he brought a rabbit out of the hedge, came 5 or 10 yards across the field to me and left the rabbit by me and then ran back in to the hedge.

Sometimes you just get a lucky one-off pet like that I suppose.

The two monsters I have now have an occasional habbit of working as a pair to catch and kill rabbits, rip their heads off, and then leave them and go off after another. I have even gone out without nets or guns (just collar and shovel!) and had half a dozen rabbits that way. Interesting to watch them work that way. Luckily the kills were always within reaching distance of holes so no digging required. They're lightning quick above and below ground, and great workers. Funny though as their father and uncle worked as a pair and they also had a habit of decapitating rabbits.
