valleyshunter 0
Hi i'v had a .17 hmr know for 2 years and was thinking of getting a my first centrefire. I was thinking of using the rifle for shooting foxes. I would need a rifle that would shoot suitable groups with factory ammo too. any info welcome thanks v.h Quote Link to post
bob.243 8,755
.243 Good all rounder, you may wish to shoot deer at some point, this is the one. ATB Bob. Quote Link to post
RicW 67
Apply for .223 and .243. If you get .243 go for it. If not, .223 will kill a lot of foxes, is legal on muntjac and CWD in England and Wales, and is under consideration for roe. ATB,Ric Quote Link to post
LordGamebore 0
I suggest a .223. It burns less powder than the .22-250 and is better on deer than the .222(if you ever wish to shoot deer). The .243 is a good round for foxing; especially in long stubble, but is more expensive to run. However if I wanted a sole foxing caliber, I would personally go with a .223. It's cheap, plenty of ammo around(Military Cartridge), and it can be used on small deer. Cheers, LG Quote Link to post
jamie g 17
223 is a good choice. factory ammo for 222, 223 and 22/250 in the top brands are all about the same sort of price. its ok using the cheap ammo for the 223 but alot of it isnt that good. also alot of it is fmj which cant be used on deer. and not the best even for vermin ! ive got 222 and 22/250 both have there use. im hoping the law for roe will be changed then i will keep my 22/250 as 22/250 when the barrel has gone. as i only really have muntys and roe round here. so thats all i need. imo if your doing alot of foxing only 243 uses more powder for the job of what any 22 cf will do at normal foxing ranges and with less recoil Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
.223 if it is just fox .243 if you think deer as well I find both my .223 and .243 useful! (and the .308 has it's moments!) Quote Link to post
Sledgehammer 0
I agree with the guy above, I prefer the .223 for foxes and cheaper for ammo or reloading and just as deadly Quote Link to post
