Nice smelly message on the brand new lounge carpet this evening! lol. Not his fault though, should be watching him. Comes out in the wash, so no need to break mates over a stool, lol. KenKeeping 13
Well, He had a reat night without any whimpering last night, so I slept well. lol. Went up about 11.00pm and left him in his bed, and didn't hear a sound off him till I got up at 6.30 this morning! What would you recomend giving him as far as food is concerned, cause I want to keep making shure he gets all the vits, etc he needs to grow etc, but e is turning his nose up to the WAGG that he was brought up on at the kennels! I tried mixing chicken, (He loves chicken) into it, and he sorts out the chicken meat from the rest, lol. So I am going to try another brand today, so up for trial recomendations gang! Its only 2 days, so spos its all down to trial and error with his food, and anyway, he will eat only as much as e wants I spos! He wont starve that I know. Noticed, he is a bit warey about the back yard as yet! He comes out, does his biz and then tries his best to retreat to the safety of the doorway again, unless Im'e out there and then he has a mooche! There are two Staffs next door over the 6ft wall, so that dont help. He cant see them, but can hear them when they are out. The neighbours are great at the moment and not letting them get too boystras and frighten him with their growling at each other and barking. But thats some thing he is gonna have to come to terms with, Quote Link to post
billy bronk 76
smart looking pup, love the featherd 1s Quote Link to post
KenKeeping 13
Yeh! cant wait for his tail to get more feathered! Then he will look like what I would relate to as a true Saluki! I only just realised that you could get smooth Saluki's, shows how naive I am! When I got him, the breeder was feeding him on WAGG! Right, Iv'e tried all ways to get him to eat it, but he isn't impressed with dried food, even though I soak it, and try it dry! Loves chicken, and Iv'e just tried him with Champion tin food with a bit of dried. He eats the meat, leaves the dry. Recomendations on how best to go around this please. I realise that he will be finding it strange on his own and away from other dogs, but I dont want to go and fource the issue with him and spoil what we already built up in the last couple of days! Cant wait to get his jabs, so we can get him out and about walking and getting a good damb appetite! Another thing. Being a full Saluki, the breeder has not done the (Dewclaws) is that what they are called! Is this going to affect his running at all. Was told they catch? He is 4 months now and probably should have been out and about well before now. Quote Link to post
riohog 5,701
get the dog on raw flesh , and bones pal chicken wings .. beef ,lamb dog mince the pup will thrive on it and the food will stay in the dog not fill the lawn with crap , feed a good compleat now and again will do no harm . also tripe green tripe will be ok aswell dew claws well it will cost you now ! mine still has dew claws and no bother ... as yet!!! KenKeeping 13
Whats this thing about Dew claws then? Everyone mentions them. He is loving his chicken I say! Do you recon not to cook it at all then. We use one of those new fat free glass dish cookers so no fat on it, praps thats wrong, cause I spos he needs his fat too. What about all the vits etc he needs then? If he wont eat the dry? Want him to get started as good a start as he can. Thought they were not allowed chicken bones, or is that crap? Tripe? Will be a race to who tries that first, lol I ain't tried it yet so bit for him bit for me, lol. Why feed a dog anything you wont put in your own mouth I say, lol. ( No remarks) Quote Link to post

KenKeeping 13
Well the first few days with the pup has been pretty good so far! Started to come around a bit now and pounce around the garden like a real puppy! Settled in real well. Sleeps all night, and waits for us to get up before going to loo, not bad for a dog thats never been in the house! Dont like manufactured food I can tell you! Loves rabbit, which is a godsent, lol. Eats the whole thing, exept head. He tries to take that back to bed with him. Have to watch what he puts in his bed, he is such a hoarder. All our tea and hand towels go missing every day. Guesse where we find them. Started to make the garden a little more interesting for him. Where he was brought up, wiith a breeder enviroment, it was all flat concrete and easy to keep clean surroundings. He now has a lot of different levals, floor textures and loads of things that he can explore, which when he ain't sleeping, keeps him interested. Loves plants though! Rather pinch a stalk off a plant and play with the leaves! I can put up with that no probs. Got the vets 2mrw, so gonna give him a shower today, to get the kennel smell he has, off him. Should be an experience for all of us. Def gonna be a 2 person job, I can see it coming. Still whimpers a lot during the day at the moment! Uses the lawn to waz, and the gravel to dirty! Its working out great as I said, considering he had never been in a home enviroment! He has his own space by means of a dog cage, that his bedding is in (and everything else sometimes) lol. It is covered over with a blanket to darken it slightly, this means that he can retire from whats happening around him and feel secure. Not forcing anything on him at the moment, trying to do everything at a easy pace that will suit him. You will all probably think Im'e daft, but I dont want to ruing straight away, the bond we seem to have got already! He has taken to my missus great as well. She is the one that has got him going out for the toilet so early. Well kep you up on the progress as he comes along. Cant wait for a fourtnight, so that we can get out and about to explore the world at a different level. Quote Link to post
