On Wednesday 15th of September 2010, Gardai in Finglas in Dublin, Ireland were alerted by members of the public who reported seeing a severely injured dog on Cardfiffbridge Road, Finglas. The dog had been maliciously handed a lit firework by a gang of youths and had lost the entire bottom of its jaw. Gardai rushed to the scene and managed to contain the injured animal.

Inspector Liam Kinsella responded to the emergency and rushed the dog to the Dublin SPCA veterinary surgeon, however there was no alternative but to euthanize the dog immediately as repair or recovery were impossible. Both Gardai and Dublin SPCA were shocked and appalled by the incident.

This made me go cold...

A number of years ago I was walking with my JRT in the street and a kid threw a firework just in front of us, which the dog picked up and started to bring back to me :icon_eek: ... I screamed at him to leave it and he did, but it exploded underneath him and he was quite badly burned and obviously absolutely terrified.

The kid ran off screaming and my other half at the time went looking for him later, but never found the little git.

He was a steady dog before that, but following this incident he was gunshy, thundershy and obviously every bonfire night (not to mention all the other festivals that seem to need fireworks these days) was a nightmare ever after.

I will never understand what people get out of deliberate cruelty. They just have something wrong with them.

What is it with people? :wallbash: A few years ago during a warm summer we caught some :censored: going in to the horse fields and tipping the water troughs up after we had been round every day refilling them. We thought somehow the horses had managed to tip them over every day and put posts and rails round to keep them upright. Caught the :censored: pulling the rails down and trying to pull the posts up. After the 'ticking off' :whistling: they got it was never a problem again.
