Lab 10,979
In the 8th September issue of shooting times a article called Mysterious Sightings goes on to debunk the sightings of big cats. She basically says they don't exist, anything that has been seen was all a trick of the mind fueled by the "old country boys" telling tall tales. In this weeks issue a man goes onto say in the letters that many have been shot, trapped and found dead at the side of the road. He gives names and dates for some examples, including a RUC officer who shot a lynx in 1996. is there a pic of the lynx? No pics mate its in the letters section, i cant seem to find either edition on the web site either to post link. He also says that a Scottish farmer called Ted Noble trapped a puma in 1980 which was put into a wildlife park. that guy ray mears believes that there is big cats in scotland and england,im not so sure like, but suppose its not impossible for cats to have escaped from private owners.i would just think there would be more sightings from keepers and ghillies. Conspiracy........... .......Come on Jaggafeen where are you :search:

True, the lady does ask in the original article why none have been flushed by beaters or hunted by a pack of hounds.

The one 8,477
Nought wrong with a big pussy ' Scotland and wales have enough rural areas that something like a big cat could live and not be noticed
Ideation 8,216
I remember recently some military policeman shot a video of a big black cat and it was walking a long a railway line so you had the space between the sleepers to get an idea of length and it was plenty big enough! The other fairly convincing proof is that they have found some horses with serious neck wounds that could only be inflicted by an animal that leaps up and onto or down onto its back and had sizable claws. On the hunting note my grandfather lived in India for a long time during the 30's, 40's and 50's and hunted many species of big cat, including man eating Tigers and Panthers, and often used dogs to do so. The dogs were a kind of hound/running dog cross. They did pretty well, but lost a lot of dogs. One or two bullx. . . . . would last about 1 minuite.

Hannah4181 260
I believe they are around, its not hard for them to remain un seen for most of their exsistence. Most are believed to be Jaguars which were kept as pets by lots in the UK when Micheal Jackson had his one. When the Dangerous Wild animals Act was brought in 76 i think it was, it's believed most owners were unable to meet with regulations on enclosures and welfare standards needed for the cats, and therefore released them to roam free. A jaguars territory is huge and they are extremely elusive animals, much like the Leopard . . .it is easy to walk straight past one. When i was working in Africa i saw only 2 sightings of wild leopard in 6 months, compared to seeing lion nearly every day. Also the nature of the animal would mean it is long gone or well hidden before any prying eyes can fall upon it, they are not outwardly aggressive and would avoid human contact at all costs. The UK has more than enough prey for them to live happily in the denser areas of forestery and woodland. I would suspect that the sightings have declined due to the cats dying out, age and a lack of mates would lead to a natural extinction in the UK.
