Took dogs for the usual run tonight,my bitch put up a rabbit close to the hedge and was on it like a shot,straight through the hedge and a perfect catch,back through the hedge and retrieve straight to hand,perfect. Apart from the 8" gash on her chest and a hole like a f**king golf ball!!!! And a 3" tear on her back leg,from what i can only assume was wire or a piece of tin. So shes in Hotel Vet for the night and im £320 light!!!   Anyway,rant over. Just keep an eye on the B**TARD BARB WIRE. atb Shushy.

jesus christ theres one on every thread ffs are you for real he may know the ground he runs on..but knowing which way the quarry is gonna run is a different matter,you cant not slip your dog just because theres some barbed wire 3 fields away hope it gets better mate,its the scourge of the fecking countryside and it should be banned

 

this guy may know his ground better than anyone else when i worked on the farm we used to move the wire round to open up different fields it was cheaper than buying gates so one day you will go on the land and you will walk through a couple of posts the next cay you will be faced with a barbed wire fence but saying that ive done the same gone out i knew the land but my dog found the one and only barbed wire fence there hope your dog gets better soon

 

 

Yes must admit, clumps and rolls and stretched out barb wire do all of a sudden appear, and then just get left there...

i know my ground like the back of my hand,and i know where the barb wire fences are,we put feed bags round them so the dogs and us can get over safely.But this was in the middle of a 4 ft hedge and was probly just left there from years ago,i may know the ground but im not Derren Brown!! I have a stapler and use it regularly but the chest wound was too big and too deep just to staple up and spray with iodine.atb shushy

As well as numerous cuts and tears to my dogs, I've lost two over the years. Both on ground that both I and the dogs walked and worked almost daily. The first was on a Rabbit that turned and went out of the lamp, I heard a faint whine and when I got there the Rabbit had gone through some netting which had a loose strand of barbed wire at the top, the bitch (who was a good jumper)must've slipped as she took off, and caught the inside of her back leg, in the groin area, on a barb. She lay dead where she'd landed, having punctured the main artery.

The second put up a Hare in the daytime, which after a few turns went through a hedge with the dog right behind it. As I was looking up the hedge, from about 200 yards away, all I saw was the Hare emerge from the other side, so I ran up as quickly as I could and found that the dog had run straight into 2 strands of barbed wire between a gap in the hedge. The momentum had spun him round and broken his neck. The wire would've been virtually invisible, especially to a dog in hot pursuit. Needless to say, I hate barbed wire.

its the devils twine it should of been banned years ago from the countryside it serves no purpose what so ever the goverment should pay farmers to plant hedgerows to help the enviroment by creating habits for small animals and birds hope your bitch recovers pal and does not affect its future working career

its a fecking nightmare mate and its all over the place,

get yourself a stapler mate,they are spot on

and will save you alot of money
