kenny14 656
Thanks for the comments. Here's a couple more photos, the pair are two of 5 chicks reared that year. They've successfully reared young there for several years now.

Malt 379
Fantastic shot buddy. Is it just me though, or does the tail on that prey look too long to be a vole? Edited September 20, 2010 by maltenby

kenny14 656
Fantastic shot buddy. Is it just me though, or does the tail on that prey look too long to be a vole? Thanks for the comments. It's definitely a Vole .If you look closely (at this and some of the other pics I took in the sequence)you can see by the length of the tail that it's a Field Vole. Had it been a Bank Vole the tail would have been even longer. Also the blunt nose, which is visible in some of the other pics indicates a Vole rather than a mouse. kenny14 656
Good stuff Kenny. What part of N. Yorks are you in without giving location away ? I pick loads of dead Barnies off the A1 every year I live on the edge of the N.Yorks moors. Lots of Barn Owls are killed on roads when either hunting the verges or as they fly across. One was killed last week only a couple of hundred yards from where the pics were taken. On a brighter note, they do seem to be on the increase.
