Cats do not become feral when they are not on their owners property. Cats remain the property of their owner wherever they are, and their owners cannot be held responsible for their actions. If you kill or injure a cat (or your dog does) then you are liable for damages. Anyone killing a feral cat must be able to prove that they have carried out resonable precautions to ensure the animal is feral (in the eyes of the law) before they kill it. Neighbours just came into the rear end of garden dog spotted it and bolted...got there and he had shaken it but i got him off soon as i could. Put the dog in and went to see if cat was ok and it wasnt there. You're right. I try to ignore them..... 'men' who use their dogs to kill domestic cats are just looking for an easy target. It gives them a thrill to see something being ripped to shreds and killed...they don't respect their quarry and are not real dogmen...they're just big tits. Hunters....??? My lurcher lunged at the cat and pulled the lead out of my hand. He caught it in the street and by the time i got him off it was near enough dead. I put the dog in the house then ran back out to find a small crowd had gathered around the now dead cat. They was threatening to phone the police so i told them i would take the cat to the vet that made them happy even though it was well dead. I decided to phone the police anyway before someone else did. The woman checked with a sgt about what would happen and they said they wouldnt do anything for a dog killing a cat. They wasnt so helpful about what to do with the cat though. They told me to leve the car where it was. It was next to a kids park in the summer and the council wouldnt get it for 3 days. must be diffrent laws in england to scotland as my mum defo got done and fined. Maybe the police i spoke to just had a bit of common sense then. They said they wouldnt prosecute not that they couldnt. I think i done the best thing informing them myself it showed it was just an accident and saved them coming to my house snooping around. Quote Link to post Share on other sites

The reason i dont want the police snooping around my house has nothing to do with my animals being well looked after. Perhaps you dont have any experience with the police and working dogs. They can jump to a hell of a lot of conclusions very quickly. This may not stand up in court but it is still a hell of alot of aggro. Edited to add: Unless the law has changed since your mum got charged under the dangerous dogs act then im actually right and your mum didnt get charged with anything.
