dare 1,103
wondering if any law on dogs getting cats? Now i know full well illegal and wouldnt dream of letting mine get one. Neighbours just came into the rear end of garden dog spotted it and bolted...got there and he had shaken it but i got him off soon as i could. Put the dog in and went to see if cat was ok and it wasnt there. Touch wood itll be ok but im not looking to admit anything that could get my dog into shit for a pure accident. Rake aboot 4,935
Aye Pretty sure it`s illegal to allow the dog to mangle a cat (I know you didn`t allow it) Not sure what the law states about it being on your property given that it`s an uncontrolled domestic pet. There used to be a funny law that allowed cats to be classed as pets but owners were not responsable for their actions while out and about. ATB

scothunter 12,609
my old lurcher killed a few in her day.back in my days when i raced greyhounds.I went to a race meeting and left my mum to feed the cpl of dogs that were left in the run.she didnt close the run door properly, and a dog got out.where it duly got a neighbours cat and proceeded to kill it in front of a load of screaming kids.Cops turned up and my mother was charged with some danger of dogs act.fortuenately she didnt have to go to court, was fined through the post.her only criminal record she ever had.wasnt best pleased at the time, and took nothing mre to do with the greyhounds after that lol
TOPPER 1,809
under english law CATS are classed as property and if its goes off its own property it is classed as feral and has no rights so you have nothing to worry about untill this new law comes into effect the dog welfare bill which will make it an offence for your dog to even look at a cat let alone munch it , but so far so good your in the clear
Guest Buttermilk
anyone? Not even a cat lover but feel for this one only young and spent 2 days stuck up a tree across the road not to long ago until found. I think it's really good of you to be concerned about the cat...afterall, it is a young cat and vulnerable. Maybe you could inquire discreetly about the cat just to check he's okay? I'm sure you're covered legally as accidents do happen. But it would be good to know the cat is okay....

But it would be good to know the cat is okay.... balls to the cat! it goes into someones garden, kills song birds, maybe an old ladys canary but a dog goes into someones garden and drops its guts.. who gets the punishment, dog OR cats owner??? im hoping to move soon, theres plenty of cats and if one ventures into my garden its fair game in my terriers eyes and mine too. i go out of my way to put obedience into my terriers,i pick their shyte up and dont let them run the streets killing song birds and spreading diseases etc.. everyone is entitled to their own opinions and this is mine- cats are heartless killers and should be controlled as responsible dog owners are expected to

Cats are the property of their owner, regardless of where they are. Owners of cats cannot be held responsible for the actions of their cats - but anyone who harms another persons cat would be guilty of criminal damage. All dog owners have a 'duty of care' to ensure their animals are under control even when on your own property.
christian71 3,187
I looked after someone's house a few years ago i took my two patts with me i let them out for a piss before going to bed there was a cat under the car they chased it up the road and caught it under a caravan with me following. An old woman opened the door from next door and asked what was going on i said my dogs have just chased a cat from up the road. I pulled one of the dogs out and the cat came with it.It was her cat i jumped over the wall and put the cat in the house on floor making funny noises. Im still sayiny sorry again when one of the dogs ran round and threw the cat around the house i got the dog off and left.An hour later the door went it was this woman and her daughter she said the cat is at the vets it was a £90 call out fee and it was on a drip and i will have to pay the bill i said i dont know about that. I went to a solicitor a free half hour thing and he said it sounds daft but the cat was trespassing and even though they caught it up the road the was nothing they could do as they chased it off land where me and my dogs had permisson to be on. Hope this helps
