If your using steel shot dont use any tighter than 1/2 choke. Quote Link to post
danebrewer10 6
phew that was quick!, are the chokes not marked on the side as well? mine have shallow laser engraving with the constriction, ie imp cyl, mod, full etc. If you are going after foxes specifically the 1/2 and 3/4 would be my choice, for general shooting then 1/4 and 1/2 is good, though you'll need to let them get in close for that first 1/4 barrel as the big shot leaves fairly large holes in the pattern at 30m as it spreads out. honestly, a shotgun is not an ideal primary fox control tool, purely for opportunistic foxes of driven foxes, or out of crops being harvested, I have killed a couple with 50gm of BB through my beretta sil pig at about 15yd, drops them dead, but pattern the cartridges before you use them, especially for this kind of use, as you'll want to know exactly where your cartridge/choke limitations lie!
