refusing to walk on a lead

Recommended Posts

hi all,

i have a 3 month old pattrdale bitch she is refusing to walk on a lead she just lays down just wondered if anyone had any ideas or tips to get her walking on lead

thanks nath

Patience mate, some dogs react differently to new things, I would suggest not losing the head with her tho, as it will only make her worse. You could try putting lead on and just let her walk with it trailing loose, once shes familiar with it then just take a hold of other end, little bit of time and patience sure she will be fine.

if you have an older dog lead it up and walk the pair the pup will follow the older dog be patient and encourage if your pup stops dont pull it mate . this works hope it helps

A squeaky or fluffy toy egging her on normally does the trick with a terrier! She'll be so keen to get the toy she'll totally forget about the lead. Lots of praise and little, short, playful sessions.

done this with my lurcher at 3mths old, after 1 wk she was walking on lead no problem,cheers......john:thumbs:
