halloween man 12 Posted September 18, 2010 Report Share Posted September 18, 2010 Mate of mine has a .223 he wants to get a sound moderator for, as moneys tight he would like to do it in stages, does he need a variation 1st to get it threaded, also what size thread, not stated what mod but i know its over the barrel type. Good choise also. well most mods are that and the thread is more then strong enough to cope. i think a 1/2 unf on a heavy barrel rifle looks weird. and imo takes to much meat of the barrel. but they are handy due to being the most popular thread Quote Link to post

You might be bringing the diameter down a fair bit, but you will still end up with a safe amount of material around the bore. As to it looking weird, I see where you're coming from with that one, but most of the time it'll be hidden by the mod! Quote Link to post

As to it looking weird, I see where you're coming from with that one, but most of the time it'll be hidden by the mod! have you seen the size of a m18x1 thread to a 1/2 unf my winny is almost 1 inch at the crown a 1/2 unf would look silly on it. a big thick barrel like that with a little thread doesnt seam right. yet if you look at the m18x1 thread on it. it suites the profile of the barrel and isnt far off the same thickness as the barrel. i no 1/2 unf is more then strong enough for that size barrel. but taking the least amount off is allways the better choice imo its stronger Quote Link to post
