MYDOGSNUTS 2
I think I am one lucky man at the moment and I am well happy . I have always been one for the terriers and every thing that goes with them and especially Patterdales I have 3 of them and work them regualy . Any way met a mate at a agriculture show a month or so ago and he said he has to get rid of his terriers and Whippets and Lurchers because he was of to gamekeeper college and could not take them with him only his gun dogs . Any way I had a think about it and with always liking the idea of having a pocket rocket I said I would think about the whippet any way the other day the day before the lad is of he rings me up to see if I still was thinking of taking the dog and I said f**k it yeah I will give it a go seeing that I have new kennels and had the room . well the first night it was very windy and raining and I could not help my self I had to see how he was with the lamp so I took him up to the local golf course that I have permission on and well bang straight from the first shine he was bang on ! only missing the odd one that was close to cover the 5 nights I have had him I have had him out three times and all ways came back with rabbits well chuffed and definately converted I am still only learning and only going on the nollage I can remember when mooching about as a kid with my mate and his lurcher so I would not mind knowing a few thing's if some one can help me can you run your dog to much? with being a whippet do I need to put a coat on him and will he perform well with it on because he was shivering bad the other night? do I feed him before a night on the lamp or after! and how do I shut him up because he is howling at night out side in the kennels and I have tried bones! the lad in the picture is the lad I got him of! Annmarie09 5
can you run your dog to much? with being a whippet do I need to put a coat on him and will he perform well with it on because he was shivering bad the other night? do I feed him before a night on the lamp or after! and how do I shut him up because he is howling at night out side in the kennels and I have tried bones! the lad in the picture is the lad I got him of! Yes, you can run a dog too much, but whether you are depends on how long you have him out for at a time He may overheat running with a coat on, but may benefit from having one on on cold nights if he is having to wait around much. Some whippets shiver for fun though, either through breeding, attention seeking or excitement. If his muscles are getting very cold it may lead to a strain. Never feed within 2 hours (before or after) running. Safer to feed after if you're only feeding one meal a day. Is he used to living in a kennel? Quote Link to post

Had he been kenneled with another dog ,is he house trained if he was bring him in they love human company more than most dogs, was his kennel significantly different to the one he,s in now I.E warm less of a draft more homely bones are not a sub for the warmth of another dog ,just a few things to think about hope it may help in some way.nothing worse than a miserable dog.JMHO. Hate to reply with more questions, but what surface were you running him on and where is the blood coming from (ie nail beds, edges of pads, all over pads)? Quote Link to post
