the fezz 44
just a quick question for all you ferreters out there been ferreting since september, and the rabbit numbers round here are at an all time low between the large amounts of buzzards and mixy round here they are very hard to catch so i was just wondering if anyone else has the same problems, Quote Link to post
Guest Magwitch
in the orchard the numbers have dropped quite a lot, the farmer has been shooting all summer long with the rimmy and its had mixy quite bad so the numbers just arent there, Quote Link to post
Rabbithunter 456
numbers seemed to be well high in late summer, but a dramatic drop, perhaps the myxi has knacked quite a few on night in august, between two neighbouring fields, there was no less than 100 rabbits (18 of which we caught lamping) the fields were 150 yards wide and over 800yards long. we were gonna net the fields in late september, however there was not a rabbit to be found........ SeanTheHawker 0
no rabbits in liek a 50 mile range of me, have to travel a bit for good rabbit ground, round me is well overhutned by lads every day and night, even in the summer. the buzzards wont affect the population in the slightest Quote Link to post
terry 0
very low rabbit nubers here, been on the decline for the past few years ,i would say it's the lowest ive ever seen, we used to work long nets or tackels as we call them , and takeing a couple of hundred in a night off of the airfields was not unusuall ( not a couple of hours of course) but this past ten years has seen a major decline in my area, so much i hung all my long nets in the attic a long time ago, the ferrets get a run but even thats hard work picking up the odd rabbit from set to set, now buzzards, every fence post you can see them, rabbit population in severe decline/ hookbeaks in population boom, mixi comes and goes hardly ever see one now , not like the 70's terry Quote Link to post
doddsy1970 9
Same in Bedford during the summer loads of bunies but it also gave perfect breeding for mixy result less bunnies during winter Quote Link to post
beagles 0
same here ive got a place i went 2 in the summer in one field seen 50plus and now not as many but they seem 2 be coming bck cos [bANNED TEXT] we lamped it the other nite it one corner about 20 poped up so there comin bck bit by bit but another place by us was humpin with the buggers in the summer and now only see 15 on the lamp i think these rabbits will be on the exstinked program next Quote Link to post
Ricky-N.p.p 0
Mild winters , thats whats fecking things up !! the frost here is coming far too late its almost crimbo and we have only had 2 light frosts this leaves a lot of diseases lying dorment as the tempreture doesnt drop enough to kill them off . so between rabbit cold/flu myxy and god only knows what theres not as many to go round BUT do you really have to have enormous bags to have a good day ???.......i certanly dont ! more often than not i will take what i need to keep me goin on stew and leave the rest for another day unless of course i'm there to "do a job on them" and the farmer has requested a dent in the population Happy hunting to one and all ! ho ho ho p.s Terry where do you live ? Guest Hedgehunter
I see that its not just here that numbers are low,I read somewhere(can't remember where though)that theres a more virulent strain of myxi about, lets hope that the bunnies that survive have some sort of immunity & then breed like their name says they should next summer.
