1st picture... fox was shot by me with my sako varmint 22/250 with an S&B 6x42 on top, shot at a ranged of 133 yds, hope your happy now dave, that you seen the shot taken at over the 100 yard mark. ( forgot to say dave already had taken a shot at this Fox 2 minutes before and missed him from about 60 yds) SORRY Dave1372 had to let the guys know.

2nd picture this fox was shot by another shooting friend at a distance of 192 yards, this was running at full speed and he knocked it over, one of the BEST SHOTS i have seen in a few years (or maybe it was luck ???)any way it was one of the biggest and heaviest i have seen for a while, if i not been there and seen this Fox for myself, i would have said it was a big january Fox in full winter coat.

3rd picture another fox shot on the run by the same friend, shot at 60 yards (he cant be lucky and shoot 2 foxes on the run...can he) :feck:

4th picture is of 2 x dog foxes who had been feeding on a ewe carcuss, the 1st one was again shot by my friend at a distance of 80 yards it was lying down 10 feet from the ewe stuffed to the hilt hence why it didnt run away, the other one was shot by me...(i do get a shot now and then) at a distance of about 50 yards only 2 fields along from the ewe, so i pressume it had had a feed from there as well.

all in all not been a bad week considering the gale force winds and rain we have had.

cheers guys Jimmy :toast:

Nice to see a few less reds about.

Mind 22.250 at those ranges is like a sledghammer to crack a nut!

You only need a a 22 hornet or .222!!

The 1st picture was the only one to be shot with a 22/250, the others were shot with a 223, would be great if we could tell how far out the Foxes were going to be before we left home, we could then take the correct calibre, as i have been shooting foxes for over 30 years i think i have earned the right, to say IN MY OPINION the best fox calibre is 22/250, for any distance between 50 and 400 yards.

Quite agree mate if you could gaurantee ranges then life would be real easy.

I have a friend who was the first person in Britain to make, shoot, and own .22-250 rifle; that was in the late-spring of 1960 which was about five years before the Remington Arms Company adopted the .22-250 wildcat and made it an official factory cartridge.

He has been shooting foxes all his life and used every calibre.

Think he mentioned shooting 3,200 foxes in 28 years

Still custom builds his own rifles and still uses the 22.250 but loves his 'long shots'

He did build himself a 22.4000 and the latest was a .20 calibre custom varmint rifle for a customer.
