woodga 170
i see that defra have allowed the use of a new device which forces explosive gasses down rabbit warrens or other burrows and ignites the mixture to collapse the sett its called the rodenator, another blow to us rabbiting lads i wonder just how many animals that get killed in the process granted they are suppossed to be sure that nothing is at home when they use this but you can never be 100% sure can you, they actually use this device in the states to kill animals under ground but are not allowed to kill animals in the the uk its an expensive bit of kit costing around £1,800 a unit so hopefully it wont be to popular  or our ferreting could go out with a bang literally

Yokel Matt 918
Not impressed with this at all. No doubt some councils will use them as a 'humane' alternative to more traditional medthods of control ie. HUNTING. 'Progress' hey... bollocks.

J Darcy 5,871
surely this would pose a great risk to non-target species.
Guest JDF
can't see this being popular,to collapse a warren is going to cause part of a field to fall in,how many farmers are going to want this.if they did i'm sure they'd just dig the burrows up with a jcb, remember something simalar a few years back when they talked of filling the holes with slurry. Guest Ditch_Shitter
Woodga; I thought this Thread was a Joke, mate! I saw the heading and thought ye were messing around here! Ye mean to tell us that DEFRA have actually legitamised the use of that " Rodenator "? In UK?! That's in f*cking credible, man!!! What the f*ck ever happened to all the COSHH sh*t they've heaped on us? We Pesters have to be SO carefull and worried about 'Secondary Poisoning' of 'Non Target Species'. Now any idiot with a huge bank balance can blow Little Owls and Shelduck to smitherines??? Is it 'Approved' yet? Or is it just a nightmare we may yet wake up safe from? Anyone got a Link for the nitty gritty on this debacle in waiting, please? Just beggers belief that they let Cymag slip off the table ~ Then replace it with This! Phil Lloyd 10,738
:11: :11: Talking about it,..and saying,.'go for it lads',..are two different things.... Has it actually been passed as 'legal' in the UK....? Seen 'Gordon the Gopher' movies years ago,...but the UK is a whole different ball game to the USA... I've no doubts that you could blow a big warren to kingdom come with some explosive or high pressure device,...but practical and 'serious' rabbit control,.as opposed to just killing for sport has always been governed by the available vonga....££. The 100 hole warrens locally are often 6 or 8 foot deep and tunneled into chalk and flint,..it would take one motherfucker of a powerful blast to shift the occupants of the THOUSANDS of well established buries all along the South Downs Way,... In my opinion,..it would be impractical,.financialy wasteful and fecking emotional Feck me,.whatever next...????? And I thought that them new Deben locator's was about as futuristic as ferreting would ever get !!!! All the best,...CHALKWARREN........ This I gotta see... :11: :11: Edited December 14, 2006 by CHALKWARREN
