pongopalmer 19 Posted September 13, 2010 Report Share Posted September 13, 2010 took my 4 year old son and 2 year old daughter out in the feilds the other day , they absulutly loved it we managed to get 2 hares, very good considerin i was trying to keep them quiet as possible .. does anyone else take there kids out young or am i the only one .. whats your opinions please. Shooting and with friends and their dogs. They've seen me come home with bunnies, pigeons, hares etc for their whole lives but they've only expressed an interesed this past year or so to come with me. I never felt the need to push them into what I do while they were very young, I hoped they'd get their own interest and they have. I'm a towny who's always been involved with the country 'cos my Dad was a shooter and it's something I grew up with. I'm just glad my boys share the same passion.... Cheers. Cheers. got a 10 year old also he bin out with me a few times but he finds it hard to keep still an quiet an he more in to his football an drama , an the little ones av seen a few things av brought home they always pay intrest in them an were they came from . ya see we live in a built up area too were gun crime is incresing an i think its good to teach the kids early on in life about the pros an cons of guns , i,e life an death.. so they no how dangares guns are when in the wrong hands.. stubby 175 Posted September 14, 2010 Report Share Posted September 14, 2010 the only trouble Ive found with taking my daughter out, is other kids, she started coming out ferreting with me around 3yrs ago, and loved every minute of it, she would pick ferts up, run for rabbits in longnet, break there necks,use a priest, the full works, she knew the internal organs of a rabbit, which I thought would be of use in biology in school, then one day in school they were doing a project in science, so she proudly took in a cued rabbit skin and a rabbit skull, came home crying as the other kids, not understanding, had brandished her a "rabbit killer" it was only recently, she's now 14yrs, that she told me the kids in school now understand what she did, and that it was wild rabbits and not pet rabbits, Quote Link to post Share on other sites

dogdigger 45 Posted September 14, 2010 Report Share Posted September 14, 2010 i took my son from the age of 4 out with the dog's and the ferrets he loved every minute he was shooting 12g semi auto from 11 he then left school and became a gamekeeper and was there for 3 years no longer keeping but still has a lot to do with the local estate. i am now working on the younger daughter she's been coming with me for a couple of years now and is now 11 and shot the 12g for the first time last week put some 21grms 7.5 though it and she loved it. we are planning a day on the pigeons this weekend so i will let you know how we get on this ie her a few years ago showing her ferret this is her now getting some tip for the weekend Quote Link to post Share on other sites

My folks used to put me in the dog run if they needed to pop down the fields without me etc. . . . . First time i shot a rabbit i couldnt pick up the .410 on my own. . . . . .. i had to rest it on my dads shoulder and he was kneeling down. . . . . .and look how i turned out Quote Link to post Share on other sites
