fresh earth 47
I have/had a half x dog Bobby yes cracking dog works with ferrets happily but reason for me having him is/was i needed something i could take "other" game with when this was legal... my best mate has the mother to the pup who is a pure bred whippet i gave him the bitch as he had lost his old dog and i had 3 other working bitchs so could lose 1 easyer than he could and she still belongs to me we lined her with bobby as both fancyed a bitch i will openly admit that i only wanted a bitch pup for the sake of having a broken coated dog in the kennel cause realisticaly a 17" 3/4 beddy 1/4 whippet is in no means possible going to ever do much if anything more than a decent whippet will and i refuse to consider they would be fast enough to give a decent whippet a run for its money however a dog on the other hand would take the sharp end with less of a problem than a whippet would but personaly i wouldnt slip a whippet or a beddy x bitch regular on anything other than a rabbit hence why i think and most should agree the cross is pritty pointless in regards to ability on rabbits against a good working peddy whippet note not every "working" whippet is a good one some may say they have more drive but tbh i have 3 whippet bitch's who run in all weather along side 4 beddy x lurchers and they take 8 out of ten rabbits in any conditions the half x dog is still mine and i use him at weekends but he is in my mates kennel that has my wee whippet bitch to as he has more work that suits the dog than me i will however be keeping a bitch from his next litter he had no bitchs in the last one but as i say its only for the sake of something diff i am out with my mates 3/4 bitch and his half whip 1/4lakie 1/4 beddy dog tmz ill get a few piks. Excuse the essay i dont knock the dog in the slightest and as i say will have one just think the whippet does the same job and to the untrained eye a smooth 3/4 would be identified as a whippet so technicaly it is a pointless cross but for the sole fact the whippet does the same job. troter58 1,711
to be honest mate i think your talking crap i would like to see your whippets run and catch on the land i run they would get smashed to bits thats why i run 3/4 whippet /beddy and so how can a whippet do do the same job? because we have tried whippets they are to fragile get knocked up and then are in for weeks imo Quote Link to post

fresh earth 47
Are you for real i run 3 kc registered whippet bitch's i work them in woodland on rocky hills and various other terrain from a coast line to a railway bank and my two 3 year olds have never gave me a problem barr my bridnle dropping a muscle while lamping a golf course my younger bitch is show stock and i mean champion show stock and she is the fastest dog in my kennel with anbelievable stamina. Although i do trot my dogs for at least 5 hours a week along side my pushbike or on a chip road between two of my farms so this keeps them fit and in working condition i dont debate a fat ped whippet thats lay on a couch all day will get knocked up but to be fair so will any bloody lurcher ! i work along side beddy x's and i have seen the lads turn there nose up while its pooring down and i have went out with a whippet my self iv also had em say i aint running mine in woodland they will get injured. A smooth coated 3/4 beddy whippet has absolutely nout that a whippet has other than an inch or so less in hight a little terriers stuberness and tbh i see nout else less pase maybe can you honestly say to me if that wee bitch pictured was presented to you as a kc whippet you would have said hold on the now she is a beddy cross way hardier looking bitch ... get a grip . I like the beddy x but as i say only for the coat factor if i worked 3 beddy whippet bitchs on the land i work my whippets id catch less rabbits fact! i am out with 3 or 4 lads with various beddy x's and from 3 nites a week out there lucky of a rabbit or two i run a diff bitch each night giving a day of and never doubling up and come home catching 3 or more a time on the same land if we go out on the bikes to give em some road work mine trot at the side or ahead of us on a woodland track my mates 2 beddys 1 a smooth one a broken coat are lagging behind i dont see what the cross has that a true well maintained working whippet dont and anyone who has owned a good whippet will agree . I am not knocking the wee dogs as they do there job and are cracking looking wee things but ill only ever have one in for the sake of a change not because they can do something a whippet cant. p.s my whippets also work whin bushes almost daily and never refuse to anything barr bramble and i aint had a lurcher who would neither .
